Little taping and sanding on Wednesday and the other color goes on. Back to the firehouse tomorrow then I've gotta get it lettered and pinstriped by Monday!!

We are planning on it. I will be getting the car back from Lloyd on Monday . Tuesday I will be installing the grill and bumpers and headlight trim. I hope to have the front end aligned on Wed. morning or Thursday. Then head out to Holt, Fl. on Friday morning.

 

Geez Lloyd, really nice work, looking good. I might have to take back some (not much) of the shit I've said about you.

 

Next week is going to be nuts. Have to work at the golf course this weekend and next Wed. Have to drive 250 miles one way to go to Lloyds to get the car. Then install all of the trim and bumpers. Get the car to a shop to get the front end aligned . Then work Wed. Go get fuel and be ready to roll out for another 430 mile ride to Fl.on Friday. Then race for 2 days and then another 430 mile ride back home on Sunday. We will be sleeping in our foldaminium while are down there. That's a tent to all of you city people.

I have been saving the paint for 3 years to put it on the right car. I think this is the right car.
The "Schools out " car is now yellow and black. It will be a great tribute to all off the kids that have been out of school and to our 3 granddaughters who are teachers and can't teach in a classroom all because of Covid.
I want to paint some faces on the side windows of some terrified kids hanging on when I launch the car. Lloyd bowed out on that one. He said he can't draw faces. I just think he is being modest about his talents.
To turn a rough old car into what it is today is amazing . He didn't tell me he had a crew of body men hidden in the woods up there. He is a one man show and to get it done in such a short time should be a lesson to all of the body shops that keep cars for months sometimes years when all they have to do is get it done.

My 57 BelAir was (almost) "a cross between piss yellow and puke green" with a white roof.
The can of yellow paint was so bright we had to tone it down with the leftover paint from the white roof.
A certain scene from American Grafiti comes to mind.
Mike, the guy in the other lane is going to need sunglasses to see the tree!

As a former School Bus mechanic, I love the idea for your car Mike! I also dig the idea of the kids faces in the windows, but I have absolutely no artistic talent whatsoever and I have confidence in Lloyd’s talent, I understand his reluctance. Your car is very cool and the idea is very cool and one of a kind!

 

Take some pics of real kids and have them blown up and transferred to vinyl. Most kids love to HAMB it up anyway!
