Excellent project!! My cousin built one of those back in 1970. Put in a new 340 and a 4spd and painted it Plum Crazy purple with sliver racing stripes and torque thrust wheels. An awesome car for a 18 year old back then. keep up the great work! Larry
That sounds like a "Home Grown" question. 43 jr? No way, no how---NEVER! Hurry and finish yours. We need more on this side of the mountain.
The Brand X funny car ran out of the San Antonio area. Lankford ran the circle track before the Funny. In 1976 we painted our race car with the red white and blue theme for bicentennial. I think Ronnie would be OK with it.
Paint it nice with your name on the side and Run It Keep it simple remember the saying ' K.I.S.S. ' as way too many of these new cars are way too busy with stuff all over them Building a clean car will get you a lot more praise, as my 37' gasser stills gets 50 years later after I built it and raced it DND
Yep Russ I agree that would look very good, maybe pearl white with candy red & blue With the lettering in turned leaf, and the Cuda would be styling for sure Hard to beat good old American ' Red White & Blue ' DND
The majority of sportsman Drag cars in the '60's -70's had the name of the driver on the door sides, or the names of the 2 or 3 folks that were involved. Catchy names have to be 'felt', the "car" will tell you if it needs a name or not. How about "Bert Speed Shop" Anyway, as I told you back at the beginning, Way Cool Job.
Since others have mentioned the connections to the Batmobile, maybe make it "Bad-mobile?" I also like the "Woulda, Cuda, Shoulda" idea. Looks great, keep up the good work.
I didn't start racing until '69 and never had more then one hoop, but I never classed higher than D gas either back then. Anyway if it is an old class rule then that makes you more correct. I was just curious. I don't see a thing wrong with it at all.
Been working on the front end the last few days. Just about ready to take it all back apart for finish welding and painting of the frame.
Tilt front end is a nice touch, this is going to be nice looking car when your done, keep up the great work.
All stripped down. We'll work on the rear wheel tubs and paint the frame. Then detail all the parts and re-assemble. Quain sent a check today to help me get going again. It was a reality check! Greer date is April 30 and maybe one sooner.
Your crushing it brother! I wish I could see the progress on mine, maybe its just cause I see it every day. Keep up the good work! See ya April 30th!!!
I think this is going to be one of the coolest cars in the SEG group. The car is going to have the perfect look and the story of the build with the owner building it at home with very little out side help is what the SEG is all about. My reason for saying all of this is you really need to spend a lot of time on picking a name and color because it's so cool everywhere else. Keep in mind that the SEG is a trip back to 1967 so name it something that reflects that. Don't name it something like looking back because we are not looking back we are going back. I want the fan's to think they have went into a time tunnel to the mid 60s. Also we are trying to bring the bad boy image back to drag racing so something tough sounding would be cool. Some one said Cave man I like something like that. Also Tennessee Terror that was a good one. My car had a cool name when it was the Executioner and I screwed up and changed it but might go back when I save the money for a new paint job. Keep up the good work you home build guys are my hero's.
But I'm sticking with "WOULDA, CUDA, SHOULDA"? It sounds like one of those names from the era like COLOR ME GONE.
Thanks, I needed that. The Cave Man came from someone saying my garage looked like a cave. It does kinda grow on you. I know a most excellent painter lined up that can do anything I need. Cave Man couldn't be on just any color, probably a solid one color job. Got my heads to the machine shop thursday. Get them done while wife and I bust it on everything else. More pics coming soon.
