Started making up my spark plug wires to my Spalding Flamethrower last night. I’m using the points style boots that came with my wires (Moroso Ultra 40), and the boots do not “snap” onto the distributor and are super loose. Any one else running one of these have any advice?

I grabbed a plug wire and a flamethrower distributor and it is the brass connector that needs to be shaped correctly and inserted far enough into the flamethrower cap. This is some deeper than a normal dist. cap. I am not familiar with those Moroso wires so I looked it up and they are 8.65 mm?? I think that may be too fat to be able insert it far enough. I have never used anything but a 7 mm wire on these and have never had any trouble

Thanks Moriarity. I’ll try shaping the end, mine have the same stick out from the boot. The wire size doesn’t seem to be a restriction, the boot is just loose on the post.

Just for reference, the boots are 90 degree, not straight

if you look in the cap, and I just measured mine the contacts are 2 inches deep , they start at 1.5 inches so make sure you have enough wire past the boot to get engagement. I have never seen anything but strait ends used on these

Yeah, right now I’m definitely not that deep in. I’ll have to mess with them some more, or find some straight boots to use

Some pics for clarity. I tried pushing the metal socket further out of the boot, but it makes for a jenky connection still, probably need the straight boots.

Putting this here so if anyone searches this is the future there is an answer. Everything @Moriarity said is true. The connector needs to be extra long and the only way to get there is with a straight boot. So I ordered straight boots, used the 90 degree connectors but bent them straight, and made my wire. Now I have a nice, solid, positive connection. Thanks again for the help Moriarity.
