I'm about to start getting my engine running again (230ci Dodge flathead) and need to replace the plug leads. What style, colour, lead ends, etc. would look right for a custom that was built in the 50's / early 60's? Did they use that yellow cloth covered stuff then? I was thinking that 90° lead ends would be the go on the plug ends... I've got an original NOS dissy cap with the screw on thingos so I'm half way there.

    Cheers

Packard 440 wire. Use the smallest plug ends possible so you don't take away from the appearance of the motor.

Thanks mate. It seems like it's just a black rubber coated copper wire lead. We probably have the same stuff over here. MOst likely OE on 50's & 60's Holdens, Chryslers and Fords. I'm onto it.

A custom would most likely have used the see through red or clear plug wires.

A performance hot rod would most likely run Packard 440 wires with Rajah clips. The first engine modification that I ever made. They didn't make any difference in it's performance but it was a perceived hot rod improvement.

You never saw the fabric covered wires in that time period unless they were original equipment and never changed.

At least that is how it was in my area.
