I just wanted something relatively easy that will help hide my many, many, construction sins until I can afford a real interior. For now, since I am broke, I'm thinking spatter paint and some bass boat seats and calling the interior good for this year. Anyone try it?

Whoa! That just brought back a strange memory. Back in 58 my mom had our upright piano "spatterpainted" It was all the rage back then. It looked terriffic with the aluminum Christmas tree and the rotating colorwheel.
    Damn, Those were the days!

Haha, anybody remember 'fleckstone' paint?!! We used to buy cases of that crap in the early 90's.

You can buy it by the quart, and shoot it through a reg paint gun.
Hundred years ago I painted alot of engine rooms in ships with it.
Takes a little figuring out air pressure, fan width, etc.
But can look great and is durable.

    even comes in different colors.

take some pictures and share 'em.

    NOT.
I painted engine rooms of Navy spec boats.
Will the spatter paint in Chevy/Ford trunks wash off with water?
    NOT

I never realized that was inside larry's coupe. Very cool.
Does it hold up to interior wear and tear? Even the spray can stuff?

I want to do the same thing in my Dodge. I tried Duplicolor trunk paint and it didn't spray for shit. It didn't want to stick, it would actually ripple like you were hosing dirt off of the sidewalk. Each pass blew the previous spray across the panel. Is there any spraybomb trunk paint that works?

Shake the shit out of the cans before use,, the more its shaken the more uniform the size of the dingleberries.

It can also be topcoated with any color paint. You can also mask off areas to create some panels.

    Check this out!!

Anyone know where I can get the paint? The only place I know of offhand is Eastwood.

*edit* Just noticed Larry's post, thanks!

I used the Duplicolor spray cans on my firewall. It worked for me but doesn't cover that well. The firewall took 2 cans to fully cover.FWIW the duplicolor comes is 3 color choices.

I had 2 cans and shook them both for about 10 min. with the same result, clear liquid with globs that washed away with the next pass. It wasn't even sticky, I wiped it off with a paper towel. I never did get a ball to rattle in either one so I wonder if this shit was so old it was caked on the bottom or is there really no mixing ball?

I've also had the "regular" trunk spatter paint wash off with water, if in contact with it for a while.
I've switched to Zolatone on my cars, it's MUCH tougher than the other stuff, and doesn't wash off.
Zolatone also comes in many more colors than regular truck paint. Can be mixed, as well.

Want the best results from any spray bomb,(old or new)?
Stick it in a container of hot water,as hot as it comes out of your kitchen tap.
Give it 10 minutes, shake like hell, change the water and give it 10 more minutes.
    Makes a world off difference!

    HOT TAP WATER only!

Don't be tryin' no hot plates or laying it on a warm manifold!

I hear it can be messy!
Thats only hearsy, mind you as I would NEVER attempt to warm one otherwise!

I used trunk splatter spray paint from Autozone on a non-HAMB car of mine and it worked great. It was a few years ago though so I don't remember the brand.

Good idea but one question remains, is it really sparkly enough for Johnny Sparkle? ;) :D

  25. Yeah it WILL wash off(actually, it gets soft and degrades)
Zolatone won't---but the parts-house rattlecan shit WILL...unless you clear it.

Have used it under the hood and in the interior with much success. It does take a little practice to get it right. I also have used a leather look paint from Hobby Lobby that covers up a lot of irregularities and looks a bit more "interior like".

  28. I never said craft store shit  ---I was talking about Krylon-esque products---labeled "Trunk spatter paint"(stuff you buy at the auto parts store).....which WILL degrade with exposure to moisture.(I got a customer who can attest to that fact)

Ain't tryin' to pick a fight with you ;)--just trying to keep somebody from fucking up and NOT using the right product(like what you were referring to:cool:)

i think i'd lean toward a roll-on bedliner material. it should work well to seal any seams and lots of color choices. good sound deadener, too...

Spatter paint from NAPA inrattle cans is good, spraying the Zolatone is better. We mixed it with HOT water, sprayed 4 coats to get good color and coverage, cleared it, worked good. Did 3 ElCamino beds, half a dozen firewalls, inner fenders and a wheelbarrow. Last time I tried to buy a quart I was told it was no longer available, I'll try the website 'cause I'm out.
