Whatever you get, that's a great looking car. So is the purple one with the speaker cloth. My 54 Olds has bare metal in the back window without speaker or anything. What's weird is that the opening is made of two halves of an oval, with a metal strip between them. I don't know if that's for two speakers, or one.

I was thinking about doing a Fender tweed amp looking panel, since it was probably covered in vinyl over tagboard anyway. I have also thought about using a nice piece of grainy wood with a blue stain and urethane, with a heat grate on top. The way some old cars used wood or plastic wood, it could almost look like it belongs there.

Traditional? No. But where I live I see ZERO old cars. Mine may as well be from Mars and run on bat****. Most people aren't going to know if Olds used wood or chrome for the door handles or anything else. Maybe it was an upgrade. I would only get the pipe organ if I could store spare change in it.

  2. Thanks guys. I don't want to use the music note ones anymore, because they are ear;y '60's. Car has to be built no later than '58. There are ZERO traditional rides in my parts as well, but I ain't gonna drive a '98 Ram with a 6" lift like everyone else either. The shifter and it's location will be changed soon, and I already have my bias-plys for those of you who will give me **** about the pictures on here. I am still looking through eBay and other sites as well as I have posted wanted adds here on the HAMB. So far I have found nothing.

  3. Mitchell, I looked on evilbay and saw NO nifty speaker grilles listed at the
moment, but I bet there have been some in the past. Are there any
swap meets coming up soon in your area? Those grilles are out there,
just a matter of running onto some.

Any older radio or electronic supply stores where you are.....someplace
that might have some left in a dark corner of the back room. A car
stereo place that's been around a long time?? Maybe even a flea market.

Very cool. You know we will need install pics though!

  7. For sure, I think I am going to just leave the plain red package tray alone for now. As eventually after I get all the custom metal work out of the way I will want to paint her and then redo the upholstry. So I am going to just mount the speaker covers on the package tray the way it is.

Those will look great Mitch. Im no one to listen to, ****, im just a few years older than you, but I WOULD NOT use "angel hair" in there. It really didnt start getting more popular til the 60s at least. And like everyone else has said, its a mess, it sheds and if you get it dirty, you're ****ed.

I think most people would kill for an interior as clean as yours, I know I would. Im spending all my time trying to get my interior clean and as close to stock as possible. Your interior compliments your car so good and theres nothing better than a good, clean, mild custom. I see botched together **** all the time, dont look twice. When I see a car like yours with the perfect stance and a very few mods, I go gaga.

    Restraint is key.

  9. I was just getting so excited about angel hair and organ pipes because of the '59 though. I was going to do all that whit if I got the '59. What about your '58 please tell me your going to do angel hair and organ pipes.
My interior isn't as clean as you would think. A lot of corners were cut. The previous owner had it done for $2,500:eek: and it only looks that nice in the pictures. The windlace fell off so I got new windlace done at Moonlight Kustoms in San Jose, CA. The carpet is also shorter on the sides than what it should be and you can see the floorpans a bit. There is also random screws and bolts everywehre. For example the drivers side may have 8 screws all over it while the p***enger side has 3 screws all over it. You can tell it was just done to get it done.
Then the "bright" previous owner painted the garnesh molding and dash himself in his garage with rattle can. Needless to say when I first got the car there was overspray all over the windows. Also you can see how my dash is two tone red/white, well where he masked it off it bled through so the red kind of just runs into the white.
It will get better slowly and surly. I already had some of the p****s fixed up a bit, new windlace done, and put the handles and window cranks in the right position, and had the carpet fit a bit better.
The car looks good in the pictures but needs a lot of work.
Since these pictures I posted were taken I have shaved, nosed and decked it. I also have a new set of 6.70-15's for it. And recently picked up a set of fender skirts from a local crazy guy.
All I need now is the hardware for the skirts and longer u-bolts for my blocks. Oh yah and Moog cc850 springs.

Sounds perfect man. Im excited you're keeping this truth be told. Its my favorite 4 door on the road right now.

Im not doing angel hair in mine. Dont get me wrong, its crossed my mind, but my headliner is really nice and Im 90% sure im going to do diamond tuck on the seats, so the package tray will follow suit.

What size blocks did you get?

  11. Nice, I already had 3" blocks. I think I am just going to try them first. I was going to put cc850 Aerostar springs in the front and heard mixed reveiws like they either lower the vehicle 2.5" or 3". I wanted my back to sit a little lower than the front. I hope if I put 3" blocks in the back and cc850's in the front it will do that. I wanted a mild motorboat stance. Nothing crazy like a lowrider cruising L.A. style just a mild motorboat stance like on a Westergaurd car. I can't wait man. I am kind of happy about keeping this car as well. I have some crazy custom ideas for it. Like grill, top, headlights, taillights, etc. Can't wait!

I'm actually looking for one of the treble clef ones. I have one kicking around the garage somewhere but would like to have a pair. If anyone has one they want to sell, let me know. The one I have isn't chrome. I believe it has a wrinkle paint finish on it.
