  2. I hardly call engine CID numbers as code... but I work close to a bunch of software geeks... all I can tell is that I think they speak in english...

electrical engineers have their own code. if you catch the older guys they know the tube numbers like they are words. same with the logic gates.

ha ha, I guess we really do speak a code language for car guys. If someone asks me what I've got, I say something like "it's a '53, 3100, with a 1954 235 running through a T-5 to a 3:08 rear from a 1969 1/2 ton."

Plain as day to us car nuts - but I'm sure it's "Greek" to outsiders.

I like the gun references. The ar15 folk have their ow code and acronyms to rival any automotive speak. Day 28 is the one to watch out for lol!

    And one other Nailhead.....the 215 all aluminum V-8 in the Buick Special 1961 and 1962. I raced mine in G Stock with a 4 speed and 4bbl. Won a few...lost a few.

What about the shitty 262 and 267!

  20. I had some 'wipe of an engineer walk into the machine shop years ago and ask me to skim a "1/2 a mil" off a small aluminum block. He had this fake British accent that annihilated me... so I took a 1/2 of a millimeter off it. He came back upset that it was now too small. I reamed him that we talk in thousandths in machine shops in the U.S.

Chevy engines. I think the crankshaft out of the 267 fits the other shitty 305.
And the 267 is just a 262 bored .030 over.

  22. That's known as the little brother to the Nailhead and was affectionately called the "Pinhead".

I used to see midgets running them and they looked and sounded awesome but the Offenhauser's were still King. Funny how VW engines took the lead from the Offy's just because of the cost of hp to weight ratio!

...and then there are the rear-end ratios since we don't include the period when speaking. At least one even made it into a much-recorded song: "With 4.11 gears you can really get lost."

If you really want a handle on things you have to know your 25.4-times and 304.8-times tables. The power lies in knowing both intimately and having a feel for how they relate to one another. Where I live it's the other way around: nobody knows how big an inch is, or how long ten feet is. There is an advantage in understanding why something is 13mm big, if it's probable that it was set out as half an inch big.

I know 600mm is a tad under 2', so your 60m is a bit under 200'. More precisely, off the top of my head, 200' would be 60.96m; 960mm, perhaps 37-38"? So I'd guess 60m is close to 196'10".
