    I don't see a number 43 on the list. I see the forty third number on the list, but the number 43 is not on the list.

  22. Were all the Studebaker cubes adopted by AMC/Rambler? OR is that a coincidence?

    I heard rumors that AMC used other manufacturers engines such as 327 sbc and Ford 390's. .. how true is that story?

    Yeah, I occasionally get the puzzled look from the Wife.
    I did some electrical work for a friend on an addition he was building. A cabinet maker by trade, he later returned the labor trade by helping me install kitchen cabinets at my place.
    I ask, "what's next Mike"? He states "knock the tits off that thing and we'll hang that bad boy up".
    Apparently my Wife was watching and he noticed her jaw was on the ground. Mike tells her "oh, that's construction talk for smoothing out any high spots on something". She walks off shaking her head.

    She was driving one day and asks me for directions. I tell her "go down to that next light and flip-a-bitch". WHAT? Make a U-turn Honey. Oh my God!, you guys!.....

    Hey, wingnutz;

    Coincidence, at best. The Stude 169 was a 6cyl - the Champion mill, as was the 185. All the rest I mentioned were v8. Someone already mentioned the Stude 289, so I didn't include that one. Stude 232 was a small bore block, the 224, 259, 289 used the same (larger-bore) block w/the same piston dia, & rod length. Engine size was via crank stroke difference. The 232 & the 259 shared the same crank. The 304 was a bored out 289.
    Stude also had straight 8s in 221, 236, 250, 313, 331, 336, 353, + larger 6s in 245.
    In the early days, Stude had bangers in: 192, 236, & 259; & 6s in: 205, 207, 217, 221, 241, 289, 354.
    & some others, I think. Erskine had about 3 sizes , & Rockne had another one yet.
    Eventually Stude, (in 65/66 - from Canada) did outsource from Chev (McKinnon) a 6: 196, & a v8: 283, before they shut down the car/truck business for good.

    As far as the AMC using other co.s' mills, not that I know of. At least not until the little bangers (other than amcs' version) were used again. The 232 & 258 were 6s. The 50's v8s were, IIRC, 250, 287, & 327. Very heavy duty torque-y mills. The later thin-wall v8s were, IIRC, 290, 304 343, 401, all their own design, again. AMC did use a lot of GM/Ford/Chry & aftermarket sourced parts. Carbs, starters, steering columns, alt, trannies, etc.

    In the case of Packard, they sold v8s to Hudson, Nash, & someone else, I think. Stude used the 352 in '56. Packard never sourced out the 374 to anyone, AFAIK. Also, the v8s that were sourced out by Packard, was the 320. But each of those mfgr did have their own valve cover stamped out w/their name in it for Packards' 320. :) .

    Engine cid #s can get to be a headache, or a source of amusement - depends on which way you look at it.

    FWIW.
