I just finished "wallpapering" a wall in my ba*****t that was drywalled in the 60's but had never been "finsihed". I used pages from a number of different HAMB calendars and decoupaged them to the wall. I like the way it turned out. Now all that's left is to trim out that window and door.

Has anyone else done anything unusal with their old HAMB calendars??

Here a while back someone sent a link to all of the Hot Rod magazine covers. I have been printing them off (when I can afford the ink) and plan on the same type wall paper as yours. I'm sure it won't look as cool as yours but, I'm trying. Keith

  5. Look cool! I like it.

Hey Denise, what do you do for a living? Interior designer? That looks really sweet!

Everything you've artistically done really is right-on. Rooms, cars. Whats next, gardening?;)

Not a great pic, I know. I don't feel like messing with the camera right now...

I'm a huge art fan but I'm as untalented as I am a tight wad. I like to buy frames at garage sales, doesn't matter what's in them or what color because I paint them all black anyway.

This is a small part of the office. I didn't want to toss the calendars so came up with this idea. It was reall easy, move the frame around on the pic til I like what I see, trackk the opening, cut the pic. Hang. Done.

Looks really good Denise. I've done a similar thing in our rumpus room but it's such a big room - 26' square - that I don't think I'll live long enough to collect enough calendars to finish it off LOL

Nice work and an inspiration to get some of us started on our own blank walls that need help.

Thought about this for the ceiling in the shop bathroom. What do you use to "glue" them. I didn't want to do all that printing then have the colors run when they get wet.
I should Probably be posting this question at Marthaeffingstuart.com

For those that are interested in adhering calendar or mag pages to walls or anything else, there is a product on the market that can be purchased at a Hobby Lobby, Micheals or any other craft type store. It's called Modge Podge and all it really is is a white glue type thick liquid that you brush on with a cheap paint brush to the back of the page then stick to the wall. It cleans up with water afterwards.

When you press it on the wall start at the top and then press downward and outward so you don't get wrinkles and creases. If you do then right away peel up and stick again. After it dries you are not getting it off SO please keep this in mind for the location that you chose to do this process. IF you're married please ask your wife first before you start. :D She might not want her kitchen or bedroom wall done with this process. ;) Also keep in mind that you will not be able to remove it like regular wallpaper. Will probably have to be sanded off if you ever change your mind. I know in my head that I would probably just drywall over this wall and paint if I ever want to change it.

It's really easy and fun to do. Let the kids help too!

Other items that I've decoupaged include my grandmothers old rocker. Originally it did not match my decor tastes and since no one in the family wanted it I had their blessing to do whatever I wanted to it. It's a fun piece of extra seating in the living room and my friends get a kick outta seeing their cars immortalized on a piece of funiture.

I've done a few other chairs as well
    One with a Corvette theme
    [IMG]

One with a muscle car theme
    [IMG]

I've done ALOT of frames over the last 10 years or so and gave most of them away as gifts
    [IMG]

I did a purse for myself outta the R&C Feature article and Ego-Rama coverage pages and a couple other purses for some HAMB Princesses
    [IMG]

On the chairs, frames, tables and other stuff I've decoupaged I've sprayed a couple of clear coats of polyurethane on top for protection. The HAMB calendar wallpaper wall I don't think I'm going to do that as I like the plain paper feel/look it has as is.

  26. You might try a product called 'Matte Medium', available at most of your better art supply stores. Matte Medium looks and acts kind of like white glue but it's thinner than white glue but what it does really well is dry very clear. Artists use Matte Medium to create a paintable surface to work over with artist's paints while allowing the image underneath the Matte Medium to come through. You can usually buy it in quarts, gallons etc and does not cost a lot. I would suggest a test piece...once it dries, I think you'll like the result.

Again, some folks here may have a better answer but Matte Medium is one way to go.

I have most of my calender pages displayed in the stairwell to the ba*****t, and quite a few favorites hanging on the walls in the shop.

  28. Looks great Denise.

Just the thing for standing there with an adult beverage, a chocolate chip cookie or three . . . and contrary to popular opinion I do have taste . . . and perusing the wall.

I'll bet the GMB's really enjoy it.

    Kudo's....

It looks great! The images look especially striking in black and white with the occasional splash of red. You need a vintage red coke machine down there now to complete the look!

I have thought about cutting up my old magazines to cover the floor in the shop, and then coat it with the Rustoleum Clear floor epoxy. I am sure that would take some experimenting to make sure that the epoxy doesn't just dissolve the ink and make a mess. We have been using this epoxy on several floors at work, so I may have to conduct some tests the next round. I was thinking it might be possible to modge podge them down and seal them and then epoxy over the top. The trick would be how much abrasion resistance (or intercoat adhesion) is left.

If it works, I think it might be cool in a display area (maybe not so cool in a work/welding area).
