Hi guys, I have been looking for, but so far have not been able to find,...There used to be a tool that was used in removing the stainless drip rail trim from roofs, I am in need of such a tool, but cannot seem to find one. It had a wide finger that went under the inner edge of the bottom of the trim piece and over the face of it, then you pried it away and worked your way down the piece until it eventually came off unbent and un-dented. anyone know where I can find such an animal? 53 chevy, Bel Air hardtop........
The only way I know about removing the stainless raingutters....paint stick and small rubber mallet and patience . Its best if all the windows are out of the car, like do this right before sending the car for paint. Basically you sit on the inside of the car, you set the paint stick on the very edge and tap it out. Start from the very end and work your way around. You may have to have a few sticks so you can cut them into shape for the awkward areas like the very back end of it. I did this for over ten feet on my wagon, the hardest part was the area near the vent wing window. If you dont have anyone to help you one a portion of it is out, just use masking take and tape it off so it doesnt accidentally kink as it hangs. Also have a good place to store them. Putting it back is a piece of cake, just hang it over where you need it and tap it in with the rubber mallet. This is like a skill level 8/9 out of 10. That is why you see a lot of vintage repainted cars without the stainless if it was removed.
The back side (square) of a bottle opener with elec. tape wrapped around it to protect the stainless usually works.
This is listed on E-bay,It's a Porter Ferguson Tool. HRP http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-TRI...AUTO-BODY-BUMPING-METAL-SHAPING-/301655732145
Thanks HRP. had that on my eBay watch list, just bought it. was not quite sure about it, but if another vintage person like me thinks so, then it must be. LOL Thanks Abe and pgj, have done both of those n the past, This stainless is absolutely perfect and I did not want to take a chance on denting or tweaking it.... didn't want to twerk it either.
The pliers I use are kinda like hrp shows, but have a square lip . I have taken hundreds off to replace vinyl tops.
