History Speed and a Midwest family

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by White Brothers, Dec 4, 2008.

  1. I thought I would share with you folks some photos from a photo album my mother picked up for us at local auction some time ago. I didn't go with her due to the fact that when I would tag along, there was NOTHING good. She saw this photo album and thought I and my brother would enjoy it...which we have. I have posted some pictures from the album before in the "Vintage Sprint Car" thread, but feel that these photos sort of deserve their own viewing and conversation. You folks out in Cali have the Bonneville experience. This is what the Midwest has to offer. So to take a hiatus from the "What color black should I paint my car?" or "What's it worth?" threads, I offer this. Mind you, this is from three separate albums spanning the early 1920s to the mid 1940s. All of the photos are of the family enjoying everyday life through vacation, school, church, picnic, fellowship, and of course RACING!!! Along with these photos came no written history. There are names but only on some of the photographs. The places could be anywhere from Jungle Park to Indy. The first photo is of the man who I gather was the "main figure". This is a photographic journey through one family's past, as the automobile sped by. Enjoy!:D

  12. Thanks guys. I was flipping through them this morning and thought everyone would really love it. Some of the photos I didn't scan, that are of normal life, have T coupes, sedans, and roadsters "littering" the background. They all appear to have 1927 plates so I mean, this family obvioiusly had some spare change cause every pic that has a date on it has the "new" model somewhere about the background, all the way up to the where the photos stop...around WW2. Did anyone else notice "Frosty" is wearing a shirt ****oned to the top WITH a tie?! I woulda cooked in that suit!

    Incredible pictures. Thanks for sharing!
I thought the garage pic in post # 4 might be from Gasoline Alley at first till I saw the sign above the building.

Looks like a couple of those track pics may have been at a board track.

There are a couple at the Brickyard (Indy) lso. the Louis Myer and the crash scene in particular.

Those are a treasure! Enjoy and preserve for future generations.

Thank you very much for sharing.

    Holy, holy, holy ****.

  16. Thanks. There is a couple pages in one album that have collages of the starting line in Indy. It looks like they tried to recreate the lineup with "closer" shots instead of one far-away shot. Thing is...I got the albums with photos missing from their pages so there is no telling what could have been there.

Anyone recognize the tracks? I "think" I see an early Brickyard. Or... Gary
