  10. HEY! Thanks for sharing those photos. I was drooling over several of em. Where the heck did they get some of those super cool radiator shells? Hand made? These would look good on our roadster project................Kinda a new slant on things! A '32 shell is grand but something different could also be extra ordinary!

Louie Meyer and Mauri Rose - I'm sure that if Mauri Rose didn't win the first Indy 500, he did it within five races of the inaugural.

Meyer is well-known to everyone familiar with Meyer-Drake engines.

Priceless pics, man - give yer Ma a big hug from all of us

  13. Thanks for the info propwash. I know I've read about Rose somewhere but didn't know anything about Meyer.

There is a picture with a group of the guys at school and these names are stamped on the back. Kenneth Bowman (the fella in the first pic) with his friends Howard "Howdy" Paust and Fred Miller. The photo with the names is with a group of photos that are at the Indiana State School for the Deaf and their Cl*** of 1925. It looks like these guys did more than watch the race! There are photos of Kenneth in at least two of the "racers". If you guys can recall the names. The Bowmans looked to have lived alll over Indiana from Terre Haute, Evansville, Peru, and Chili. If you guys know of any tracks near some of these places that could help pinpoint some awesome locations! It looks like there are some photos of Ellis Horse Track in Evansville but I don't think they would've let cars or motorcycles run.

    Thanks again guys,
    Brian

awesome! Hope you don't mind i copied these to my hard drive. I enjoyed the "Mace Goodyear Special", any info on that particular car? My grandpa used to work for Goodyear in Akron,OH during WWII as a tailgun welder. Not particularly related, no, but goodyear is an Ohio staple. Cool stuff!

  22. Ace Brown, no problem with you saving em. I put em up so the HAMBretheren can enjoy them at their leisure and hopfully become inspired. I mean HA/GR's are one thing but could you imagine a HAMB cl*** sprinter? Anyway...I can't find anything else with the "Mace Goodyear" other than I think this was it a year earlier. The number on the back of the car looks to be #34 but when I looked at the actual pic I thought it was 35 or 36 but regardless the car is almost identical, I think. I've dug further into the names on the back of the regular photos and can only gather that two of the family members were enrolled and graduated from ISSD (Indiana Stat School for the Deaf?). I still trying to find out more on the whereabouts of the tracks and if they're still around....or at least not torn down. That's about all I got so far, though.

    Thanks again,
    Brian

  29. i've always heard that indiane had a lot of tracks in that era. on rt 41 near turkey run state park there is a building shaped like a wind mill. it is/was a junk/antique store. they had a bunch of old racing pics. the lady said there used to be a track near there. and the were a few more in the area. i stoped at a junktique store in, i think, terre huate that had hundreds of old racing pics from the 20's and 30's mostly local stuff. it seemes like just about every small town still has a least one track. some have to be old enough to be in your pics.

that would probably be jungle park.

hammond had a dirt mile in operation from 1920-1936 called roby speedway. here's a link to a guy who ran there with some pics.

    http://winfield.50megs.com/Dyck/Dyck.htm

these shots were taken from the grandstand. i can't find any from the infield showing what the grandstand looked like to determine whether some of your shots were taken at roby.
