It's got hot rods and tech articles. Anybody seen it yet or know who is involved?

Local bookstore carries it. I'll go check out a copy and give a report back.

  4. Never seen or heard of them. But it looks like your big chance to get featured, or at least honorable mention.
You ought to drop 'em a note. [IMG]

Do any of you whiners actually KNOW what it takes to put out a magazine? Didn't think so.

Everyone's an I-can-do-that-better-than-them critic...why the **** don't you then instead of criticising a legitmate attempt?

And no, I don't have anything to do with the mag nor any money in it.

I don't know....that was their first issue. Plus they've got links on their website about people contributing articles and photos and what not, so you know it's not a top dollar deal with a high paid staff. I don't think it's that bad for a first attempt, all thing considered.

It looks like they have some cool rides in their gallery too. It's not Hop Up, but it might be a cool mag once it matures a bit.

For all those who are interested.
Here is some info on the mag and us.
Speed & Chrome Illustrated is a new Hot Rod Magazine based on home built hot rods and the people who build them. Most of the cars that we feature have been literally built in some ones garage and not by someone paid to do it. I am the owner and publisher of this Mag. The mag is full color throughout. Full size 8.5" x 11" with some very nice photography. This is our premiere issue. It has been out for about 3 weeks. The mag will be published quarterly. We are setting up distributors all over the states as on a daily basis. Check the site for one near you or order one from the site. We want to hear from you hot rodders out there. We are "Your Local Rodding Magazine". This statement is not referring to a physical location. But a camaraderie a**** fellow gear heads. One of our features is our “Burn Out Page” This is where fellow cars dudes smoke the hides off of their rims. We are going to have an artist profile, car club feature in each issue. One of my personal favorites is our “Stupid Car Tricks” page. This is where we publish your stories of all the crazy things that happen when you work on and drive old cars. Example: How I blew the valve covers off of my engine. This will probably be in the next issue so I wont ruin it now. Check out the mag and let me know what you think. This mag is created for hot rodders by a hot rodder. Please feel free to email me with any questions that you may have.

    Thanks

Tuck! Dont judge a book by its cover! [IMG]

I have always been fair, i think im gonna order one and give it a chance, seeing as the owner cruises the HAMB may be a good sign.

hey nick... i was just pageing thru a magazine tonight that used to be cool... but its been on the decline and its not a "big name" mag either... it was almost painful to read, it went from one story into the next, back to the story before it?? this is what im getting at... maybe its cool to try and figure out which article you're reading but it bugs the **** outta me.... just like that cover haha [IMG]

I'm saying I wouldnt bother... im not telling anyone to NOT BUY THE MAG... dude nick GO FOR IT. same with STUDE DUDE... I dont care what you do... and I guess I miss out on the awesome coverage.

Never been that big a fan of magazines anyway... I think the hamb has completely filled that void.

I know what you mean Tuck. I dont like guessing what im reading either but If the magazine turns out good i dont want to miss out. I am a huge magazine junky, if im not at work/garage/or on the hamb, im reading magazines. I try to fill my little brain with as much car knowledge as possible and the magazines are good for that.

Tuck...what the **** do YOU know? Taught you ALL ABOUT page layout huh? Oh please, tell us **** monkeys what the rest of the magazine looks like...we're all just dying to read your diatribe

So now I expect you're gonna tell me you're a big time magazine editor...been working for magazines for years and EVERY ONE you work for uses YOUR exclusive page layouts? Riiiiiiiiiiittttte!

I didn't say anything about me thinking the cover works...and no, I certainly wouldn't try to school such an EXPERT as you. I simply said you whiney *****es always seem to cut up some one's legitmate attempt with your short-sightedness...at least Speed & Chrome has been ***sembled, printed and out (for all of those that are interested anyway)...can't say, Tuck, I've seen any of your magazine attempts on the HAMB or on the market.

I think my comments were clear that I was refering to the cover and how the choices usually follow thru... and if you wana get all worked up because I flipped you the bird keep going stude dude... be a rock star.

It's in my experience in "reading" mags that with loose, poorly designed covers comes with it a loose poorly layed out mag.

I never said I was a big time mag editor (the bird here)... but I do know alot about Graphic Design as it was almost my double major... what can't I comment on the cover stude dude without getting the comment jamed up yer *** the wrong way?

Rock star here...so guess it all goes back to that old saying (and something you must obviously live by Tuck) -- "You can't judge a book by it's cover."

Just a few minutes can give a dramatic difference. I'm not saying this would be a final but I tried to include some of the major items and give them a little twist.

    Attached Files:

  20. I've seen some pretty shocking covers for premier issues of the most recent of the independent mags over the last couple of years that have improved dramatically up to the current issues. This ain't the worst.....But the flying belly tank is a new twist!

yeah, the super belly tanker was a bit disturbing, which was the reason I grounded it in the color block.

Gee, I must have missed this topic the first go-round. I just picked up issue #5 last night from the magazine rack. The cover with a photo of a front engine dragster w/ a blown hemi and the ***les NHRA Hot Rod Reunion and Billetproof caught my interest. I was hoping for coverage of the Kentucky Reunion, but it was the California one.

FWIW, no rubbing Kulture, old skewl or otherwise, in your face:eek: . Lots of crisp, clear color photos printed on high-quality paper stock. Feature cars, mostly customs, show both details and the entire car. For the five feature cars, there was one half page of tech info about the car. One of these cars was bought from the HAMB cl***ifieds.

In addition to the two events above, there is also the Primer Nats, Rockabilly Rod Reunion, and the A-Bombers Old-Style Weekend in Sweden. There is also a tech article and an opinion column by HAMBer HotRodHon.

My only complaints: I'd like to see more tech articles, and the writer who interveiwed KIRK! about Billetproof used "Rat Rod" about five or six times too many:D .

To quote Adam Sandler, "Not too shabby." I'll be looking for the next one.

    Later, *****6:cool:

You guys are tough! I just picked up the latest issue, and it is a far improvement over the first. Good luck with the mag, it looks good. (The burnout page ****ed though - a 64 Buick Skylark and a Model A street rod that sits like a 4x4)

I know what its like and it ****s. but he is right about the fonts, even under tight deadlines we knew to use different fonts for different articles.

    Lance,
Ya got a nice magazine there. Congrats. I bought a couple issues to check it out and I like it. And don't listen to all the self proclaimed "experts" that think they know everything about everything on this board. They are just a bunch a wannabees that will criticize anything.
BTW who is that Han guy writing in there? Is he the one that doesn't know enough to keep his (our) 37 out of the rain:eek: :D Keep up the good work.

I think it's a really cool magazine that's just going through some growing pains. Once they find their niche' it'll do just fine. The newest issue is my favorite so far.

By the way.......to anyone who's managed to read this far.......you can delete prior quotes. You don't HAVE to keep posting what someone else wrote over and over and over......just my 2 cents...
