For those of you who follow such things. The Speed Demon spun and rolled at the 3 today. Driver is OK. Car not so much. Check their web site or Mike Cooks web site of LandSpeed.com for more info.

Yes, a masterpiece of engineering, and George has big balls. Very impressive endeavor, glad he is o.k.!

That was crazy. I wonder if something broke? That car has been rock solid from the start, and has made more 400mph plus runs than any other car ever.
Looks like a side wind pushed the front end to the right. Inline front tires. There was no "hop" to indicate a blown tire. Glad George was OK.......and the camera.
The course was soft down about the three. We went home after World of Speed because the Shootout had been postponed. A day later, it was decided to "test".
The new Speed Demon pics! 800lbs lighter, and redesigned. Will this one get George over the 500mph mark????? From FB today: "Can you spot what's different about the new Speed Demon? A lot of it is under the skin, but these pictures show some significant changes. The car is 830 pounds lighter at 4,128 lbs. with George and all fluids on board. Imagine what that's worth. All heavy components have been moved as low as possible in the car and the engine is set forward 10 inches to achieve 64% weight on the rear tires. Adding 50 pounds in the nose box changes it to 63%. The air scoop was found to be ineffective with minimal pressure so it is replaced with direct oval shaped side inlets just ahead of the turbo inlets. There is a slight positive pressure on the body at that point. Losing the air scoop helps make the tail more effective too. The other changes include new canopy mods flush mounted exhaust stacks and the lower body sweeps much farther back past the rear wheels. _John Baechtel photo"
