As long as Speed is wearing tight white pants and an ascot ... I'll watch it :D

Seriously though - we of the younger generation were fortunate enough to see the reruns ... now it would be cool as all hell if they made the actors mouths look like they did when the cartoons were "talking".

  4. Fireball XL5 and The Thunderbirds were two of my favorites!! Not Japanese though, from England. :D

I LOVED Speed Racer. Watched it everyday and even bough a collecters edition video years ago with a Speed Racer watch packaged with it. I'm 39.

I'm 43 and never missed an episode. I LOVED these cartoons, but now I'm a parent and the current cartoons just don't seem cool. They are also very proper and safe. It must be a good thing for my kids, I don't want bad influences in their lives. But, I never really had the desire to act like my cartoon characters unless it was jumping garbage cans with my bike. It was different back then, but teenagers didn't start shooting up schools until Barney came out.

    Think about this...

Looney Toons and Merry Melodies - full of violence and racial stereotypes
Land of the Lost - still gives me nightmares
Every Disney film back then - had horrific scary villians and gut wrenching tragedy
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Remember that freakish "Child Stealer"? Long ruddy nose, ashen white skin and greasy black hair...yyyyyyuuuuuuck.
Wizard of Oz - Those !@#$in' flying monkeys.

...and then there was SPEED RACER.

The only car on earth that the Mach 5 didn't have a CHANCE against was the GRX...a car so fast the driver had to huff drugs to actually drive it. Gold smugglers, drug dealers, murderers and thieves were in every cartoon it seemed when I was a kid. I LOVED these cartoons but I never acted 'em out. (Well, okay. I did SOMETIMES.)

Then, to top it off...Every day after school on channel 41 ('71 or so) we had a clown named Presto who hosted cartoons and did magic. Speed Racer was part of his line up. I loved this clown man! One morning my Mom gives my little brother and me these ****tail napkins from a nightclub downtown, WITH PRESTO'S AUTOGRAPH ON 'EM!!! COOL!

A while ago she told me what happened. My Mom was standing at the bar when this chubby little old guy comes up behind her, palms her *** and says "Hey baby, I'm Presto the Clown."

    Life is confusing.

Okay, How could they possibly do it without CGI?

Christina has some ****age that Trixie could only dream of,, OH Yeah!

They had to save Spritle and Chim Chim from the evil Michael Jackson in an unreleased episode!!!

One of the Coolest toons ever, Hope they use Sparky though didn't see his name on the website.

    Regards,
    Rex

Yikes! by the looks of the trailer I'd say Speed Racer crashed into the Willy Wonka factory...

    I'll still watch it though.

Come on give it a break! The original Speed Racer series was a cheesey animated piece of **** entertainment that we all worshipped when we were kids, and some of us still do.

I just watched the trailer for the movie. The CG animations looks a little fake, but that's OK, it's Speed Racer after all.

I don't do movie theaters anymore, but I will rent or most likely buy it when it comes out on DVD.

I'm just wondering why they didn't cast Jeff Gordan as Speed Racer?

  18. haroldd1963,

I could see Jeff gordon as Speed as well- he's got the look, the bad acting and the haircut down already:D
