Event Coverage Speed Week 2013 Dumb Ass Questions....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by A32Flathead, Jan 9, 2013.

  1. OK, so I know the usual answers.....

Bring lots of water, wear a hat, put sunscreen on the "gentleman's area" etc...

    However......

Speed Week is 8/10 through 8/16, Saturday through Friday....I had originally planned attending Tuesday thru Friday due to time constraints, but have to be back in CA Wednesday now, my question is this (finally)....

If I go Saturday 8/10 thru Tuesday 8/13, will I get to see a good cross section of stuff running? Do all the classes run every day? Or should I just make better plans for 2014?

    Thanks...

Weather permitting, Saturday thru Tuesday is when the majority of runs (in all classes) are made!

By Wednesday, things really start to thin out as many racers have already have packed-up and headed back home (i.e., they set a new record, broke, completed their "testing", etc.).

I went this past year for the first time. I got there on Sunday and two friends had already blowed up, didn't get to them run. WHEN I go back I will be there for the first day. Slept in the rental, showered at the truckstop, met lots of HAMBers, had the time of my life!! The place is everything everyone said it would be, it's overwelming.

    YES

YES. (there's no specific order, it's all random)

Always make better plans for the next year. For example, be sure you plan to attend the HAMB BBQ!

  5. And remember that there are 4 courses to see the action on. 1&2 are the long courses and usually run closest to the pits/spectator areas but the starting lines of 3&4 have a lot of action to the East

  6. We have limited time and a long drive (1700 total miles plus or minus). Get down there early Sat morning ... leave Monday afternoon. We always have a lot of fun.

Some day I want to get down there and attend the whole thing. From tech to finish. Probably have to hook up with a racer to really get the whole effect ... Maybe when Tman gets his ride on the salt he will let me be clean up guy or something =)

Here's another aspect that I figured out last year as compared to the visit in '11. The car show at the Nugget is biggest on Friday and Saturday. I got there on Sunday last year and there were still cars at the Nugget, but number was really down.

  8. Thanks everybody.....

Looks like it's a go then....

  9. As the rest said, the first weekend is the busiest and it gets less as the week goes on. The order at starting lines is all random, mixed classes, cars and bikes.
