Has anyone used a speedo cable reverser before? Do they work or are there any other alternatives to change the rotation on my speedo cable? I'm running a 4-speed top loader with the cable opening on the driver side. My speedo is from a 55 Chevy apache truck and the rotation needs reversed to get the speedo to work when going forward. Works great in reverse though!
Yup, came from here: http://www.transmissioncenter.net/speedometer_calibration_______va.htm As a 90º drive, which also got the cable into a tight tunnel, for me.
Check out your drive and driven gears for the speedometer, and then go here: http://www.bgsoflex.com/speedo1.html Most, including yours, speedometers in the US are designed to be turned 1000 revolutions-per-mile. The drive and driven gears get that for you. In some cases, there does not exist a combination of parts, or currently available parts that can accomplish that. In that case, those 90º adapters can be built with a ratio change, which will get you back into the tooth range that you can tune from. Check your gears before you order. On my T5 equipped Falcon, with 3.55 gears and 24.2" tires, I would have had to use a 27-tooth driven gear. That gear does not exist. I attached a GM 0.8241:1 box, which allowed me to use a stock 22-tooth gear, and get within 1%.
