So I picked up this old speedo its in pretty good shape, but it doesn't work. I don't know what it's out of, but it's made by Waltham. Just wanting to know if anyone knows how the needle comes off. I've tried pulling on it but I'm afraid I'll break it. I'd like to get inside to see if I can save it. Thx. View attachment 2067289 Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Every one I have had apart has pulled straight off the pin. Some of them take a bit of a pull though.
The photo didn't come through,,but before you try pulling it apart try spraying a little penetrating oil where the cable connects,,then find a cable and try spinning it,,if you have any movement at all,,spray it again, let it sit and try the cable again but this time instead of using your fingers to soing the speedometer use a power drill. I have had good success with this method,,, 3 out of 4 times with Waltham speedometers. HRP
run the drill in reverse to get the speedo to work. checked out a 52 f-2 ford unit today before going thru it.
If you can get your fingers on the drum, to stop its rotation, you can hold it while twisting the needle off in the other direction. For the real stubborn ones, I made a puller which goes under the hub of the needle, and has a pointed screw that pushes thru the tiny hole in the hub, pulling the needle off. Envision a C shape with a pointed 10-32 screw going thru the middle of it. Don
