I need some help, I have a 56 Chevy 3200 I need a speedometer cable that has the correct end for a turbo 400 and the stock speedometer. I had a buddy told me one from a 69 Chevy Impala was the same but after removing one I saw different. I am trying to find a used version to avoid a custom item unless I have to go that route, thanks in advance.
what end was wrong ? it should have screwed onto the th400 , so can i assume the speedometer end was wrong? what size/thread end do you need?
The stock cable was loose on the transmission, so I picked up the other cable, and when I was installing and removing the stock one thats when I seen the ends that attach to the speedometer were totally different.
not understanding , when you say "stock" do you mean the `56 chevy cable or the `69 impala cable you picked up? that should have screwed onto the th400. what do you need on the speedometer end? transmission end?
I'm not sure what exactly you're needing either, but I've got them from http://www.transmissioncenter.org/speedometer_cable.htm before. They have a bunch listed and can get you what you need.
Your trans should have a 7/8 male thread and the speedo will have a 5/8 male thread. The inside cable will have a .104 square on bothe ends. That setup was used for years on GM cars. I usualy use a late 60s Chevy PU cable assy as those are available in several lenghts.
Thanks for the advise, I'll be going to the Car and Parts Swap Meet in Springfield this weekend, someone there should have this, and some mirrors, and maybe loads of other goodies.
Send Rusty (e1956v) a PM or go to his website... http://www.speedoservice.com/ He can get you fixed you up with your cable need. HRP
I was just scouring NAPA's website for a cable myself. They have 259 listings for speedometer cables in various lengths/ends starting from about 12 bucks. You could spend some time there and probably find what you need in a new one.
Does anyone have a die set or know where to buy one to make the .104 square end on a Speedometer cable? Yesterday I found the following ... but I don't have a mill to make one ... http://www.frets.com/HomeShopTech/Projects/SpeedoCable/speedocable.html )
