I just bought another speedo for the '36 for the texas trip. I'm hoping this one will last more than 100 miles. Is there a way to oil the inside to keep it spinning freely? I don't really have time to send it off to be rebuilt. Any suggestions?
You should be able to get the back off to get at the inside. Can't say for sure about yours but I have seen them with oil holes in them, although I don't know how many actually got oiled. If or when you get inther use light oil like 3 in 1 oil.
Carb cleaner followed with something like sewing machine oil. There should be a wick in a screw-on holder, put oil in that for sure. Then you should be good. Cosmo
Do I squirt the oil into the hole where the cable attaches? Or do I have to take it completely apart? I'm not seeing anyplace that looks specifically for oiling.
If it has an oil hole it will be obvoius. You may have to dismantle that one, not completely just get inside the case, then you can drill a hole in it to give it a squirt once in awhile if you want.
Look for a hole with a freeze plug looking thing in it. Pull the plug and oil the felt wick. Spin with your battery drill back and forth. Reoil. Will help a bunch. the plug will be on one side of the shaft housing near the base of the unit.
