Maybe I should throw mine on eBay. A fellow hamber did just buy the Maund stacks so that worked out a good deal for him .
That burns my bum when people pull that stunt. A small lie is no different than a larger one in my book.
I have no experience with the Speedway carbs. I did buy a pair of the 81's that Clive is making now. They replaced a pair of stock 81's that worked 'ok'. One of the old ones had a EE1 base instead of the 7/8 base. Emulsion tube placement in the old carbs, threads stripped out, etc but they got the car down the road. Put the new ones on and had to do some jetting changes for both the mains and power valve...but I'm running around at 7000' elevation. One float was a little high and the carb had post nasal drip. Complained to Clive about the bore for the accelerator pump and suggested a radius at the top of the bore to help with loading the accelerator pump leather when it is wet with gas. He was appreciative of the feedback. The car performs so much better now. I would recommend these in a heart beat. Quality items Sent from my XT1585 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I installed 3 Speedway 97 carbs on a 327 a few years back and was totally surprised how well they worked out of the box. Have heard great things about Clive's offerings as well. If you go with originals, spend the time and rebuild them right. That means deck all the surfaces and make sure that the idle/air screws/ports are clean, etc. I would even go so far as to replace the ****erflies and shafts and ream the housings to suit. Any air leak will wreak havoc with your tuning. I had a Chrysler with 4x2s and never could get it to idle under 1,200 rpm. Pulled the carbs apart and rebuilt them VERY thoroughly and that motor would idle at 500rpm like a Swiss watch and pulled throughout the rpm range with nary a hiccup!
I live in Nebraska and try hard not to buy from speedway. Even their name brand stuff is seconds or lesser quality. I still buy there when I need something but it is usually limited to Holley parts Sent from my S48c using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have the Speedway 97's on my 38 traditional "hotrod" from late 40's..it had real "94's" on it, but the pre-owner put the Strom knock offs on it. I can't get it to run right at all. I had the 94's rebuilt...to put back on it, as it came to "him"...asking: Will I have to get new linkage to put the two 94's back on to replace the 97's? Thanks. hope someone can help me on this...kinda new to the flatheads. John
After struggling to make my old Holley 94's to work, I got a new Chinese Carter AFB reproduction carb and am really pleased with how well it went. It even comes with sight plugs and external screws to set float level.
now THAT is an upgrade--holley adjustment on a carter!--now if you can keep from dropping a metering rod...
Generally the answer is no you should be able to use the same linkage setup. But if you show us your linkage to verify that, it would be helpful to provide an accurate answer.
