Am I wrong to be pissed? And if that's not bad enough, they are about two-thirds the size of the last pair I got from them.
I would be... Kinda like the last time I was trying to pickup a new pair of levis... Made in China! Or the Carhaarts at sears... Mexico. I dont get it!
They must have just sent out all the backorders ... I got a pair today. I'm sending mine back. When I go to the local store (I know a few good places yet), what can I ask for as a replacement? I'm not turning this into a politcal thread, and I own a Japanese bike, but I'm not putting these rod ends out on display on my truck.

[/ QUOTE ] Heh...my first job was maintenance at a supermarket (this was only like 3 years ago), and I got some really nice black Carrhart's for like $50 or something at Fleet Farm. They fit great and looked reaaally durable. After the FIRST WASH they turned from nice dark black to strictly GREY in color, and two months later they were full of holes and all the seams were coming apart. I went back to the cheapo pair of Wranglers I was wearing before that and I still have them.
I would lots rather have the Japanese tie rod than some of the other vendors part in the market. I am a big fan of their work.[and Americans too when I can afford theirs].as for QUALITY- I would not be afraid to put them on my car.Look at their bike motors.........[bashing begins]
I think all the old Ford pickup tie rod ends are 13/16 x 20 parts store should have ...say 1957 ford pu tie rods
NO, NO, NO! Japanese stuff is high quality ****... Its the chinese stuff that isn't worth the air it displaces. That japanese component likely cost more to make than a similar one would cost to make being made here. Why sell the japanese part then? Perhaps difficulty in buying the American one in quan***y. I know a lot of folks on here think that unless its made in USA, it aint squat... but that isn't necessarily always the case...
I agree with burndup. These days parts actually made in Japan can be considered virtually the equal of U.S. made pieces if not better in some cases. The caveat is whether or not the piece is actually made in Japan or just resold junk from China (not Taiwan) or some other 4th world ****-hole. Industrial manufacturing quality, not to mention labor prices are the equal of any western country. The labor situation is so bad that it actually pays them to manufacture cars in the U.S. some of which are actually shipped back to Japan! What a whacky world.
I agree that the Japanese part is probably of high quality. I own a Honda chopper. It's just a matter of aesthetics for me. I'm building a late-40s style fenderless pickup and the tie-rod end (for split wishbones) is too visible. I tried three parts stores, all old time places, with no luck. None of them had an older Moog book anymore to look it up. I moved last year and my usual 2 stores are further away. If anyone can come up with a definitive cross-reference, that would be super.
Haring, I went thru Kanter to gets the ball joints that I'm using on my Chevy. USA made as far as I can tell. They cost somewhere between $10 & $15 each... I forget exactly how much. Ed
Ed, thanks for the suggestion. I just called Mac's, which sells just about every Ford part under the sun. I asked about the manufacturer, and they refuse to tell you. After repeatedly asking "why not?" I was told that they can't tell me the manufacturer because I could then go order it elsewhere. Talk about paranoia. So I asked if the parts were USA or foreign-made. I was told they are USA. Ten minutes before, I had called the tech line to ask. I recieved a callback and was told that the parts are foreign-made. The tech guy even thought that they might be from Korea. So it seems that Mac's is confused as well.
[ QUOTE ] Am I wrong to be pissed? [/ QUOTE ] Maybe you should be pissed at the inability of your camera to focus. Where was that thing made, anyway?
[ QUOTE ] Maybe you should be pissed at the inability of your camera to focus. Where was that thing made, anyway? [/ QUOTE ] OK, maybe not the worlds greatest picture . My original intention with this post was not to cast doubt on the quality of Japanese parts. It was to express my anger that within 2 months Speedway would change their balljoints. I, too, am using them to split wishbones on my T. Now I'll have to juggle around balljoints side to side so it looks right(and use a little filler to cover up the lettering ). By the way, I have the part# at work for them in a old Moog book. I'll try to get it tomorrow.
I've got a RH and LH set of old speedway tie rod ends (NOS) in my trailer. Code on the label is: RH - A04AM D04E1 8537 (Speedway part no. 910-02909) LH - A04AM D04E1 9587 (Speedway part no. 910-02919) Maybe you can cross ref. those numbers? If anyone needs them they're available. (11/16, no jamb nuts, but have castle nuts, cotter pin and boot)
