Wow. A buddy was there last week and he posted over 200 pictures. I don't think you duplicated any of them. We were there 28 years ago on our way to Laconia Bike Week. Back then the museum was only open on special occasions, I called before we left home to see if it was open. They said no, but stop and we will see if we can work it out. We stopped in the business office mid-morning, after breakfast and a gentleman I presumed was Bill Smith's son greeted us and said have a seat Dad will be with you soon. From where I sat I could see down the hall and Bill was obviously taking a nap. He had been having some health concerns at that time and when he woke up he jumped on his mobility scooter and said follow me. Out the back door into the warehouse (I probably could have spent a couple of hours snooping thru there) and another door into the museum. To this day I feel special for getting a personal tour of the museum by Bill Smith. I think the museum is over twice as big as it was in 1998. It must be time to go again. At 77 I don't know if I want to ride a bike that far but thinking about fixing up a sidecar. I've had Oregon Ducks football season tickets for 31 years, Oregon joined the Big10 and they play Nebraska this fall here at Autzen Stadium and play next year in Lincoln. I have a moto "I'll go anyplace for two good reasons". I think I have a date.
Thanks for jogging my memory, I went through it years ago before the big move. Mrs. Smith gave the tour of the pedal car and the tether car displays. I went to the new digs in 2024. Gob smacked! Totally overwhelming and I went twice while in town. I don’t remember seeing anything that wasn’t impressive! I see that the Harry Miller section is still there. It’s beyond words. The engine section is the only place that I’ve ever seen an Alexander OHV like mine.
awesome, - that you take the time to share your cars with others. I suspect they would be happy to have any, if not all of your cars on display over time……… …………this would look good in your collection ………………… thanks for sharing the rest of the photos.
Cooler than a little bit. I made a multi day pilgrimage there about ten years ago chauffeuring a minivan of lifetime hotrodders. It was my first time seeing jalopies and gowjobs displayed. Stories were told, parts were purchased, side trips were taken, it is a warm and friendly memory.
That is such an awesome museum. I have been fortunate enough to have been there twice. Believe me it is a destination. Figure on spending the better part, if not all, of a day there! The variety of automotive related "stuff" there is incredible, something different at every turn. I hope to go back some day.
But the CC Dream Rod is in one of the pictures you posted. The one with Spencer Murray’s Dream Truck?
Someone else asked too - looks like Sam Foose's Ford? Cy Kubista's "T-N-T"! Minnesota car, former ISCA champion. Great to see that there. Sign says it - the car that Doug McClure's character drove in the movie "The Lively Set". When I was there a few years ago, the display sign said the movie also starred "James Dean". I pointed out to them that it should be "James DARREN", wonder if that ever got changed?? Pretty sure that's a model car display. Pretty realistic though, isn't it? Made the trip in 2021, and I'm gonna get back there at some point this year too now that the expansion is open. It's definitely a must-see for anyone who's into cars. Even those who aren't!
