Just a heads up. For as many years as I can count if I ordered before 1 PM resulted in next day delivery. Yesterday I placed an order at 12.30 pm and the salesperson said I should have it tomorrow. This morning I received the order confirmation stating Thursday delivery. That's 3 days. I am 90 miles from Lincoln. Apparently they have adopted some type of new shipping procedure that now involves Amazon & USPS? Progress?

cheaper for them and most customers wont be fussed, also means they can add another tier to shipping and charge a premium for next day.

Alternatively, it's only 1.5 hours away. You could just pick it up yourself and have it in less than a day.

It's normally not been a problem and won't be again. As far as driving there, would be a 4 hour trip, time is money.

I don't know when, but at some point in the last couple of years, they must've changed shipping. Not sure if it's a different carrier, contract, who knows. Even just to Omaha is no longer the next day like we used to have.

I just had Summit do the same thing to me. Ordered at 8am on a Monday. All the way through checkout it said next day, coming from Nevada. At 8PM on the same day that I placed the order, I got an update that the ETA was Friday, coming from Texas. Big difference and I was really counting on one of the parts I ordered being there the next day, which is what kept me from running up and buying one off of Marketplace that a guy had new in the box, I needed it asap. Summit's response was a shoulder shrug.

Ya beat me to it. Same experience last week at Summit. An unexpected and atypical delay on tier part. The tracking showed my parts arriving in norCal and then sent to Arizona...wrong direction. Maybe they needed a tan.

    UPS Red 1 day $$$
    UPS Blue 2 days $$
    UPS Orange 3 Days $

    Fed Ex Overnight $$$
    Fed Ex ground $$

USPS - what ever they tell you, add a day to it, never fails.

    Shipping costs has escalated significantly.
Base costs depending on size/ weight is ball park $20-22 no matter what.

Avg GP Margins on the parts sold is 22-35 GP Margin so you have to sell a lot to pay help, inventory, real estate etc.

    Just expensive to ship today.

There is no free freight, you’re paying for it in various ways.

What is all the rush? "Poor planning on your part does not mean an emergency on my part".

In my world, Federal Express would never have even gotten a foot hold.

They can't upsell you to next day if standard shipping is just as fast.

Does everyone remember back in the good old days of mail order buying?
"please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery"

Maybe people were better at planning ahead back then, I had a discussion with my Saturday breakfast group a few years ago when they decided to open liquor stores on Sundays. They all thought it was a good idea, but I said "maybe people that can't plan ahead 1 day, shouldn't be drinking..."

My USPS orders have been coming two days before the estimate, and they delivered the last two on Sunday!

  17. I understand the thrash, if a departure date is coming up soon. But really?

It would be way more of a problem if you were stranded away from home waiting for a delivery.

Since this is a traditional forum, I would think this is what would be the period correct way to order from somewhere far away. And track a package? Who'd have thought we would be able to do that in the palm of your hand. How quickly people have become accustomed to instant gratification and next day shipping.

Traditional parts ordering involved cutting a coupon out of HOT ROD, getting a postal money order, sending it to the vendor with a 3 cent stamp and then wait. If one of my client's coupon ads was backed up to another coupon ad on the next page, I demanded and usually got a full refund from the magazine.

Summit at one time had 90% of everything I needed in Reno so I got it in one day. Now it seems nothing I order is there and most from Ohio. 4-5 days. Amazon is a crapshoot.

I placed a order with summit a week ago Sunday and got it last Wednesday and that's shipping it to Fargo then having to hitch the horses up to the wagon and make the trip west to the middle of the state while fighting off the bandits and Indians I thought it was pretty good considering what they went through.

Well, it's still better than going to the junk yard and spending the day searching for a part, taking it off, bringing it home, and putting band aids on three fingers and two knuckles.

I'm in Ohio and when ordering from Summit Racing (if I need it really soon) I call and ask if they have the part in stock in Ohio. I've also got parts from out west days later from them.
Shiping has also gone up quite a bit thru USPS. I just shipped two 15 x 8 aluminum wheels to Rhode Island. I quoted $100 shipping and I'd ay anything over $100 and refund anything under $100. They weighed 21 pounds each. Coss $122.20 to send them. Sent them last Friday with expected delivery Monday. Tracking yesterday says they just got to Cincinnati (16 miles away) yesterday, 4 days later.
Might as well get used to it, I doubt it is going to get better.

  28. I can remember ordering parts from Charley Card, the original Honest Charley, years ago. Charley had his poop in a group and got the order out very quickly. But I do remember it still took days for the order to arrive and I was only one state away! That was in "the good old days".

Being in Canada with all these stupid tariff threats, I am trying not to buy anything for the time being.

So here's a story from the other side. Last month I needed a part from Speedway quickly, opted for the "Guaranteed" 2-day shipping (shipping fee to be refunded if late).

Two days later, a snow storm hit, the pass closed, the usual cluster ensued. Got an email from Speedway saying delivery was delayed. Well duh! Clearly not Speedway's fault, so I figured I wouldn't be an ass about the refund.

My part arrived the next day. Also received an email from Speedway saying my shipping fee had been refunded. Again, the delay was totally out of their control and I didn't ask for the refund. They just did it. Have to say, I was impressed they stood by the guarantee.
