I'd be thrilled if USPS was within a day of their estimated ship time! I often have 3-5 day estimates that take 3-4 weeks! And sometimes get caught up in what USPS calls "looping" where a package goes back and forth from sender's distribution center to mine, but never gets delivered until I file a complaint. Then somebody finally stops it and sends it to my local station, and delivers it.

I have a good one for Summit- I ordered a hardened oil pump drive, A Mopar Performance part quite a long time ago. I was working on a project and I needed it quick. I usually order my Mopar stuff from Mancini Racing, prices are the close to the same. A couple days passed-no part. So I ordered one from Mancini-had it in two days. That's ok, I always like to have an extra on hand. Summit kept bumping the delivery date back. Two- (2) years went by, no part. They finally sent me a message, saying that it wasn't available anymore.

I just got a box from Summit Racing last week. I ordered it on February 23rd, and everything showed as ready to ship and in stock on their website. After I ordered I got an email saying one part would not be ready to ship until a month later (holding the entire order). The availability for one part kept changing for about a week, and clearly they ordered it after I purchased and it wasn't in stock (still shows as such). I finally got my parts on the 20th, so nearly a month later. It isn't a matter of whether I need it, but if I knew I'd be waiting much longer I would have ordered it from a different source that had it available sooner. Car parts are christmas, and I want christmas now!

Time is money and you're complaining about 3-4 hours vs 3 days. Shipping always takes at least 3 days, between packing, driving, etc. You've just been lucky up until now.

It's pretty frustrating, but that's exactly the point of the tariffs, to get us to stop buying.

EDIT: I looked through the list of new tariffs and don't see any indication that we should be charged for the parts we buy.

Yeah since I moved my shop, I'm farther from my paint supply, occasionally I just have to take the time to make my rounds, just part of it when you're a one man band. I still order from speedway quite often, but if you buy it through Amazon, and you're a prime member, life is good. Not like speedway has competition when it comes to a lot of things.

  7. Summit is & will always be my go to!

I check with them 1st on pretty much everything, if it is in stock in Ohio I get it the next day if I order in the morning. Sure there will be screw ups & delays, but I have been their customer since 1978 when they were in a little place on Gilchrist rd in Akron & I honestly can't remember any problem that would make me consider not using them. By the way....I believe their free shipping threshold is $109.00

Also a plus in my mind is that the owner is an Amateur Radio operator & has incorporated DX Engineering into his stores, so I get to ogle the latest & greatest radios when I make the hour & a half trip to Talmadge. I try not to do that very often as it costs me much more money.:D

    God Bless

Got a nice explanation from Speedway. The parts I ordered were mistankely shipped via Amazon. All dealer orders are supposed to only be shipped UPS or FED X. Apparently the sales person was new and unaware of the shipping situation?

  9. Traditional parts ordering required filling out the order form in the JC Whitney catalog, mailing that in with your check, then waiting for 4-6 weeks for your parts to arrive. I think we all had more patience back then. Besides, it’s hard to order parts online with a checkbook.:D

Disagree. Spent the afternoon in a junkyard removing old parts and enjoyed every minute. Inspected every part before removing to make sure it was good. No band aids were required.

All of us over here in Europe, just sat here thinking.......

Must be nice to get parts in 3 days!!............

That said, I have had parts from Rock Auto in 3 days before, yet I cant get something from 4hours away in less than a week!! haha!!

  12. Getting anything shipped to you is a crapshoot these days. Still better than the mail a check in and wait days.

Ordered a diode from Amazon & it was apparently on a slow boat from China as it was in route for 2 weeks.

Since eBay changed their shipping system when buying stuff from the USA and shipping to Canada, 3 weeks is when I start looking at the tracking. It's terrible.

Parts delivered. Placed the phone order at about 1 pm Monday, Amazon took possession of the parts Monday evening at Speedway in Lincoln at 7.30 pm where they were then transported to Liberty MO. on Tuesday then back to Lincoln on Wednesday where they were finally handed off to the post office Wednesday evening and then the post office got them to Fairbury NE Thursday morning where they were delivered at 11.00.AM Roughly a 700 mile trip to go 100 miles. Now that's efficiency?

You guys will love this one!
Sold some Quickchange parts to a guy in the UK.
Had lots of delays in getting everything ready, transferring funds etc.
He had the freight company pick the stuff up at my place.
    11:00 AM on Feb. 10
He had the complete order on the 12th. keep in mind that it lost 4 hrs in time zone change alone.
This was not a rush shipment in any way. We both expected it to take weeks to go from Michigan to England.
It must've gotten on an airplane in Detroit and flew non stop!
I don't know what the freight bill was :D

It seems illogical, but it may be more efficient from a "big picture" business standpoint for UPS, FedEx, etc.
If you ship me a part from NE to CA via UPS air freight it'll likely fly from NE east to the UPS main hub (airport) in Louisville. It'll be sorted as one of the millions of parcels that day and within hours be on the next flight to their LA hub (Ontario, CA), then trucked to the San Diego hub and be placed on a local delivery truck that will be routed with route optimization and alga rhythms. Also, UPS delivery truck routes are designed to make 90% of their turns as right turns because they are safer, save time and use less fuel.
If it's UPS ground or freight, it'll go via freight train and truck or exclusively by truck if it's less than a few hundred miles.
Watch a video on YouTube. Their business plan of attack to handle millions of parcels a day is mind boggling!

My shop is about 200 ft. from the road. My regular UPS driver is prohibited from pulling or backing into my drive so he carries everything down the hill to the shop. My long time FED X driver has the same restriction but says Fuck it and drives down to the front door. He told me once he ain't carrying all the heavy stuff I get that far. USPS calls to notify me I have a package and even though I installed an over sized mail box for medium parcels I get to make the 6 mile round trip to get the package. Times aren't what they used to be. Guess I'm lucky they don't just throw them in the front yard. Service with a smile?

  22. You can blame much of it on Amazon, my retired aunt and uncle live in a town if house to house mail delivery.

My aunt said the delivery times were very inconsistent, it might be from late morning to late afternoon noon went the mailman arrived.

When she went to the post office to ask why it was so inconsistent they pointed two three huge carts filled with Amazon boxes and explained that the numbers of Amazon order effects the sorting time.

They are bogging down both sorting and shipping times for USPS, U.P.S and FedEx!

Maybe we should ck. the prevailing winds when placing an order, a good tail wind could be beneficial.

If things work out as hoped, tariffs may go away on many items shipped to Canada which should be a big help to rodders in Canada. I believe thats the ultimate goal in these negotiations. :)

I have a shipment of parts coming from Roadster Supply. I paid for them yesterday and they shipped same day. The invoice was $1,051 USD including $167 USD shipping and I paid $1,552 CAD after the exchange. It cleared customs today, and my FedEx bill was $75 which was $63 in Canadian tax (5% GST) and the rest to FedEx. No indication of tariffs so far. Right now it's still our exchange rate that is killing us most. For reference, the cost of the parts in USD was $884, so it's nearly double in moose money by the time I get it.

I won't comment on the goal of the negotiations.

Bought a part on Ebay, it was in Lansing MI. shipped to Detroit then to Chicago, where it bounced around for a few days till it ended up in Port Huron, Michigan which is 60 miles east of Lansing (parts travelled 500 additional miles) arrived 2 weeks and a half later after ordering.

I'm still waiting for a photo Ryan shipped on March 10th

USPS tracking says it will be a little late.

    I have my fingers crossed

The parts I ordered from Roadster Supply Left Anaheim yesterday, went to Nashville, and are now heading to Canada I believe. It's a pretty straight shot North from Anaheim to where I am, they went a very long way in the wrong direction
It's pretty normal to watch our stuff circle the US before it comes north.

Once had a part I ordered make it from Michigan to Texas to my mailbox the following day. Flat rate medium box. More often I get to watch my orders wander back and forth all over creation for a few days. When the tracking stops updating I know it will show up unannounced a few days after it was supposed to be delivered.
