Well I am off to Speedweek again in a few days now and I thought I’d put up a post. Ever since I finished my car I haven’t done much at Bonneville due to some circumstances of trial and error. Turns out my cam has been my problem. A few years ago I got a Potvin grind cam made by Pete from here in the HAMB. It arrived broken into two pieces through the mail and needless to say it didn’t get in the car that year in Bonneville Pete made me another Camshaft and it arrived perfect. Rebuilt the motor again and then the following year we got rained out and my car never even came out of the trailer. All the while trying different things to find out the problem alway driving the same speeds. Well this is the year I finally got the Potvin grind camshaft in the car and replaced my valve springs. My Isky cam was to big and I believe I been floating valves and losing all my power. I am hoping this new camshaft will allow me to go faster this year finally. I have never been a mechanic and have learned alot in the last five years since finishing my car. I still say it every year but I think this is my year… hahaha fuck! If your going out to speedweek stop by and say hello. I’m bringing shirts and shifter knobs to help out with gas if any e is looking for one..
Good luck man! The weather is lookin real good this year. My dad & I were out there July 19 by the bombing range riding the dirt bikes places we'd never been because of how dry it is. I was out on the salt end of June and the crust was thin - but the 'mud' was so dry/hard packed that I thought the conditions were the best for driving I'd seen in 3 years.
Cool beans and good luck. Your comment on taking shirts and shift knobs brings up someting I have suggeted in the past for those going to spectate. Take along some spare cash designated for buying racers shirts or other memobralia. A lot of the racers take shirts to sell and that is the only place and time you might ever get that shirt and it puts a few bucks in their kitty for the week.
Lucky, all my best to you! Here's hoping everyone is safe, healthy, all the bugs are simple and the track holds all the power you need to do it! Oh, and the truck 'n trailer are trouble-free. I was late in following your build on Mad Fabricators, but I've watched them all at least a couple times now. While we haven't met, I'm in awe of your talent, work ethic and vision.
Ya know the crazy thing is I can barely afford to get my ass to Bonneville every year and sadly I depend on selling some shirts to get home.. haha racing ain’t cheap. I do however appreciate all the support over the years. It keeps me going for sure!
When I have more time after speedweek I’ll share some more detail on car. In my mind everyone has seen Rodders Journsl #83 but as it turns during Covid it didn’t make it to alot of places. Might be the hardest one to find. Anyways, maybe some other guys got it and can share in the meantime….
Here ya guys https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLr_qWzTxOmB7BxhIrRhGP7TAJn7YyWNmY&si=Q4OtYv0HrNCHGVVj that will link you to a play list of Peiros video series on the car
Thank you Tim. It’s crazy to see that cover page with the car in that condition. I started the car shortly after Bobby and I opened Old Crow when we were racing the bellytank
Lucky, I must have watched Stormin Bonneville 10 times. Love what you do, and Tweety series is awesome. Cheers brother.
