None of my wifes business how much I spend. I don't golf, hunt or much of anything else. At least I have something to show for all the money I have spent. I keep the reciepts in case I need to return or warranty something.
Anyway it dosen't matter how much you have in a car it is what it will sell for and they are seldom the same. I would feel different if I was in this to make money.

This all reminds me of the days I worked in a restoration shop. Boss would make me stop what I was doing to count how many nuts bolts and washers.........and cotter pins I used on some project the week before. I'm sure the clock was running on BOTH projects as I did the inventory.

I save most of the hard part receipts just in case I need to buy that part again if it goes bad. My memory is not what it was 20 years ago.

Over many years on the "wild side" I spent a couple of hundred thousand on booze and women. Now, in my older age I spend time in the shop flogging on a 34 PU and a 41 coupe. What a cheap ****in hobby!!!! Not to mention I get to save whats left of my liver.:D

I build cars for other people. The little stuff almost always costs as much as the big stuff. So when you have all the major components, you have bought 1/2 the car, and have that much more to spend.

    Hey,

Okey, picture this, you're goin' down the road (nice sunny summer afternoon) when WHAMO! some sheep nails your ride, bigtime! You are okey, but your ride is major toast. The other party is clearly at fault, and has insurance (unless this goes down in Southern California, in which case you're really hosed) but has some ******** insurance company that don't know **** from Shinola 'bout property damage claims and old cars. Their adjuster says "hum, a '23 Ford, looks like 25K outa cover your loss (you're in deep at 45K, that you'll admit too!" The insurance Co. say's take it or F.O.A.D.! Without paper to prove your case, your actual loss, you could be in for quite a firefight in a court of law!

Alittle something to figger on whyle yer tellin' yourself W.T.F., I'm only in it for fun!

I never understood why anyone would want to keep track of what they spent on their car or aircraft. What would be the reason? The total is not what the car/aircraft is worth if you want to sell it. As a matter of fact, if you know the total and sell it, probably for less, you might just go postal. I believe in buy what you need/want, when you can. Build it, drive/fly it, enjoy it. Keeping books, a spreadsheet, should not part of the deal. Just my opinion.

I started to many years ago.(on a different project).and it got to the point that the paperwork and the job of keeping it all together got to be more of a project than building the dam car.

so now i just buy or make as i go..and when i have the available funds to buy what i need to carry on

Same here, when I buy something, no matter how small, I simply stuff it into the folder. I don't plan to add it up, but in the even of a sale or total loss, that stuff may come in handy.
