Spider Caps...all the same, or who has the best?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BIGREDTODD, Mar 14, 2012.

  1. So I'm needing a set of spider caps, and looking through the usual suspects they all seem to be very similar if not exactly the same.

Is this the case, or is there a "place to go" for the best quality?

    Thanks

Go to Hubcap Mike, his stuff is always the best that's available on the market...
The man has integrity, so even if their is only one Mfgr. that's building these, at least you will know that you bought from a great guy!

  5. Cal Custom if you can find them. I have some NOS cal customs here and they were and always will be the best.

I think they still make 'em.

I bought some from a local shop, he said they were the MOON ones, in less than 300 miles I had two of the lug covers come off. I moved them to the back and hid them under the skirts, the local shop didn't want to do much about it.

Spider caps look good, but the ones Ive seen are way to expensive for a cheaply made product.. Kinda like the new baby moon style caps but a whole lot more $$$

I just bought a pair off of Jimmy at Rally America. Thats right, I said a pair! As I only wanted two for the front, my skirts cover the rear.

Mine came in before schedule, and believe it or not they ARE good quality even though they are from China. These are not chintzy breakable bolt-ons.

Best of all Rally America is an Alliance Vendor.

  10. I'd thought about going that direction too...way cheaper too.

Kind of how I feel about it. That's why I was hoping to find the "good" ones.

I'll have to talk to Jimmy again. Just ordered my chrome steelies from him yesterday...may just have him chrome som push-through cones for me.

    Thanks for the input gents...

BTW, mine felt good, were really heavy, not pot metal like. The problem appears that when the small lug covers are "Pressed" in to the base, it doesn't mushroom out on the backside very much, it seems more of a friction / pressure fit.

The reason I didn't go the "traditional" route is because my car doesn't use lug nuts, being an early '50s Mopar it uses bolts instead. So naturally I couldn't use nice chrome lug nuts.

I bought my set from Night Prowlers. They were the only ones that had the bolt pattern I needed, 5 on 5. Forgot what they cost but I remember they weren't cheap. They appear to be good quality.

I bought mine threw speedway motors. They were cheaper, but I also had to hog out the hole for the little screw that holds them to the backing plate.

    He's talkin wide five, 5 on 5 1/2 NOT 5 on 5

  19. Spider caps are the real thing. The bullet center and lug nuts is a new millenium thing to over come not being able to find spider caps at a reasonable price.

I bought speedways, but had to buy bigger lug nuts to keep the retainer from coming off...[IMG]

  21. Can someone show me a good pic or 2 of just the retainer? I have a set of old spider caps without the retainers. I might try to make some.

Last time I placed an order with Speedway they asked me if i could suggest anything they did not carry. I suggested 5 on 5 1/2 spiders for early Ford wheels. We'll see. I won't hold my breath.
