You fellers that have used spider caps on steel wheels.... Do yours have a retaining such as the one pictured below? Having this retainer sandwiched under taper seat lug nuts seems kinda sketchy. So, I was thinkin' about drilling and tapping the wheel and attaching them that way. Have any of attached 'em that way?
Yeah, those look funky but they work just fine. Don't overtighten the mounting screws and use a dab of loc***e on 'em. Do torque the lug nuts.
I am looking for spiders like these. Are these made for the early ford rim? Would someone provide a link if so? Thx PJ

The retainers work fine as others have stated, but I did slightly enlarge the mounting holes to ensure full lug contact with the wheels.
Also, they sometimes have a tendency to rattle. So, run a little bead of silicone around the back side of the lug nut holes and let it dry before you put them on. Makes a little cushion to help seat them tight.
