Help ,I need to rent, borrow or lease a die to clean up threads on a spindle. It is 3/4 Diameter and 20 Threads per inch ....thank you pm me please if ya can help me out

  2. 3/4-20 is an odd size.

3/4-10 (NC) and 3/4-16 (NF) are the standard sizes.

If you're just trying to clean up some damaged threads get yourself a thread file.

One in USA and one in Metric should take care of most anything you run into.

It won't hurt to have a couple of small triangular files as well as a knife edge file to ***ist in cleaning up the threads.

Call Rutland Tool at 1-800 289-4787. Not cheap but good high speed dies in the thread you want.

autozone has a lone a tool program , don't know if they have what you need ,but worth a try

  6. OTC Tools. They have a tool that looks like an aluminum monkey wrench with the stationary upper having a batch of thread pitch dies to be placed into the cutting position. Common to big truck mechanics. They use this tool to clean up axle housing and spindle ends.

Buy the file ... then you'll have something you can use again.

Thread file is the way to go. We have them at the shop that have 4 different pitches on each end. Great tool to have in your tool box.

Went through the same deal with a '53 Chevy spindle for my straight axle Willys project. The local machine tool outlet quoted $80 bucks plus shipping (10 days). Buy the 4 sided thread file and a couple of knife edged ones. Works like a charm......PATIENCE and make FREQUENT checks of the threads with the nut. And yes, it it a ******* size/thread count.....probably the reason for the big buck price, and lack of local availability.

  10. I forgot about that well used tool in my toolbox. Courtesy of Snap-on.
Again, correct tool for a job. Sometimes it's not correct.

  11. You'll find thread files on the KD Tools rack.

I sent you a PM, at least I think I did. PM me if you still need to borrow my spindle re-threader. I'll check tonite to see if it has the pitch that you need.

  13. on something like that , i like to use a thread chaser...it will clean and straighten the existing threads without removing any metal. just my 2 cents
