When I was putting my front disc brake kit on my 51 Styleline I had to replace the drivers side spindle with one off of the drivers side of my 54 chevy parts car. Just threw the front wheels on and the drivers side has negative camber now? I installed the spindle with the "B" marking on the bottom. Is this correct? As far as I can tell and also with research the spindles are the same on the cars from 49-54 correct? Any ideas?

54 spindles are different. you can use them both but not just one.

The 54 uprights sit about .5' up from the 51 style. RF is right, use both and you should be fine.

  4. 49-52 are the same
53-54 sit up higher , effectively lowering the car around 1”

Swap both sides and your golden

All I swapped was the spindle. I did not swap the upright. When I put the two next to each other they looked to be the same? Are you guys saying the spindles are different between 49-52 and 53-54 or just the uprights or both?

    Thanks in advance

Take a close look. The spindel may have a top and bottom. I'll look later at mine. Thinking you may have one upside down

there's a thing called "king pin inclination", so you have to put the spindle on right side up. How far is it off, several degrees?

The spindle definitely has a top and bottom. The king pin has an angle to it as it is mounted on the vehicle, it will slant in toward the wheel/tire. On that Chevy spindle the k/p has a 4* angle, is your camber very much negative? 4* will make it look pretty extreme.

It has a "B" marking which I put to the bottom. I ***umed that's what it meant?

don't look for markings...look at the relative angle of the spindle (the part that goes into the wheel) and the kingpin. There will be a wider angle at the top, and tighter angle at the bottom, between them.

this image is for a solid axle design, with a lot of king pin inclination, so it's exaggerated from what yours looks like..but see how the king pin "leans back" at the top?

So it was a perfect storm. When I had pulled the spindle off and cleaned it up and painted it the bushings where installed reversed which when I switched them back and flipped the spindle my camber issue was resolved! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I haven't messed with king pins before so i learned alot. That's what is so great about this message board!
