Technical Spindle ?

    Can anyone tell me (specifically) what these spindles are from? Thanks

    Model A Ford, 1928-‘31.

    Ok, so it looks like someone has modified some backing plates and mounted them on these spindles for hydraulic brakes. Im guessing I need to replace them with later model spindles for a disc conversion.
     
  4. Yes, the spindles are Model A. Disc brakes are great if you plan to stop a heavily loaded car that you just drove through water while pulling a trailer from 100 mph several times in quick succession. If you had '40-48 Ford brakes they should do the job for a Model A unless there is more to the rest of the story. . They go onto the Model A spindles with an inexpensive adapter kit ($25?) and elongating the mounting holes in the backing plates. If you want an upgrade, go to the reproduction Lincoln Bendix brakes.

    Remember, if you plan to run wire wheels (I like bent spoke Kelsey's) the dust from the disc brakes will get all over them and they will require frequent cleaning.
