I am not having any luck finding a 1 piece molded Winshield and rear gl*** window rubber/gasket. I bought a kit that is supposed to be for my car (51 Dodge Wayfarer) from Andy Bernbaum. It is just a strip and not molded. The bottom of the windshield is square or almost 90 degrees, you cant bend a piece of rubber around a square corner and make it work. I keep getting told you have to cut and splice it to make it work. Wouldnt this be a leaking nightmare? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for the help!
PM oldbeet here, he'll set you straight. he did my windshield and used some sort of glue at the splice. no leaks.
I thought it was just Superglue , thats what we used on my chop top rubber.... most rubber sold comes in a roll and is cut for how long you need it , its a cheap extrusion mold to make the profile , very little rubber has molded corners like the originals , it just costs too much for the mold to make it that way, the problem comes in the corners , the lip will tuck in if its too short , allowing water to get in..... but sometimes it works if they make the outer lip a little longer than original.... you are not the first guy to have this problem.....
trim ahesive glue you buy in the parts store will probably work for you too, or relgular weatherstip adhesive also. I have this **** called lightning bond thats perfect for it, but I got it at a swap meet from some shady vendor and I don't know where you can get it, google it maybe it bonds everthing.
super glue works also you can make little slices in the rubber at the corners on the inside to make it fit a little bit better
Gl*** shops use black urethane, comes in a calk gun cartridge. This **** is so good on a **** seam, you can't pull it apart. So you could **** miter your corner, glue it up and it will behave like one piece. Frank
