I am using split 40 wishbones on the front of my A set up with a 4" drop Magnum axle and bottom shock mounts. The problem is that the perches that I have (unknown aftermarket) are too short. I can only get a few treads on the perch nut. My perches are 4 3/4 inches from the top of the taper to the bottom of the thread. Does anybody make a longer perch? is it OK to remove some material off of the wishbone or the bolt on shock mounts to get a better fit? Thanks
There are longer aftermarket perch bolts available to allow for the lower shock mounts. Deuce Factory is one supplier.
Duke ,welcome to the club.I ran across this same problem and rang all the manufacturers to see if there was a longer perch made.....no.Then street rodder magazine showed an article by Ron Cianado(?)buildind a 32 sedan using the same components, so I contacted him and asked what perches he used,He told me he had no problem and he could`nt understand whatI`d done wrong.Several weeks later he E mailed me and said that he had hit the same problem after all and he got round it by using half nuts with Loc***e.I bought some and they fit fine.Another way around the problem is to have the top face machined down and the dimple reintroduced where the perch sits in and make up the difference in length that way.(I`d already chromed my w`bones so plan B was not an option.)Hope it helps. My perches are Deuce Factory!
i had the same problem using a 37 axle and split wishbones . i welded tabs on the wishbones for the shockmounts. skull
sorry you cant really see the lower mount but it ends up a little farther back than if mounted on axle perch .but it works . skull
