As for peoples opinions, to each there own.

If you decide to go with the dummy spots....the ones that King Of Dice sells are really a quality item and worth the money. The chrome and the shape are spot on (pun intended). Seriously, the Appleton shape of the Kustom Kraft ones are much nicer than the cheap Cal-Custom ones. I've compared both of them side by side. You can also see them on his website.

    Good luck with your build.

Paul i do like customs. i just don't see the point of bolting something on your car that belongs on a tow truck, bucket truck, or fire truck for looks. i don't think they look good on vehicles that need them let alone a car that doesn't. it was my opinion. by the way i fix rust for a living to me rust is the color of money. Hey man, I respect your opinion, and your right to it, but just look at the percentage of cl***ic Kustoms from the 50s and early 60s, many of them built by iconic legends of the Kustom the world that sport spotlights, real or dummy. Are you trying to say that many of the people that we owe our traditional Kustom stylings to just ****ed up every car they ever put a set of spotlights on? I guess we'll have to just beg to differ, but I'm with the likes of those Barris brothers and Larry Watson on this topic. Things don't become iconic because they were a stupid idea.
    All the best.

    thank you!

Ok so i am going to ask some really stupid questions.

i took a gander at the car last night to see just where we would put the spotlights on it. please excuse me but i dont know "technical terms" on the car but the pillar on the outside is wide enough to mount a spotlight but where the handle would come through to the interior, on the p***enger side, it would have to p*** through the windshifeld frame on the indside if we were to mount it up high enough so that the hood wouldnt smack into it if we put the hood up. There is a very small area just below the corner of the windshield frame (and i'm talking SMALL) where the handle could come through but then it seems if we were to mount the spotlight there. it might be too low. The windshield frame is very, very tight to the pillar and it borders the door frame so essentially i'm ver confused as to where the handle is to come through to the dash area if we were to mount real spotlights. i will have to take some photos of the areas in question and you guys can help me out. the are from the windshield to the actuasly hood i only about 3-4 inches in that area where spotlights would be mounted.

does anyone have exterior/interior shots of spotlights being mounted? thanks!

Also there are templates available for your car on where to mount them. If I recall they might be on Riks site too.

GOOD THREAD BACK FROM THE DEAD.. Spots.. hmmm.. Growing up in LA I dug original OEM spots like on the 55-57 Pontiacs when they were asembled with the side view mirror, and then I began to notice the teardrop pairs on cars they looked too aftermarket and fake and something only the older Chicanos added so it took me a while to appreciate them until I got into the whole custom tradition and developed a better appreciation for them.. now I'm considering them for my 1960 Buick 4-door flattop after seeing how they look on the Larry Watson-painted 1959 Cadillac but I would like them installed so they aim straight ahead when they're flipped up, and also I would like them to be functional for night time car shows and stuff.. are dummy spotlights capable of being wired and modified and transitioned to real functional use? who what when where, and how? any suggestions?

I think dummy spots have run their course. I see them mounted in places that look so stupid. I am not really keen on real spotlights sticking out of the window posts either.
