Pretty good swap meet in Monroe last weekend. Picked up this cool old "split" banger manifold...

Fairly well thought out. The area outboard of the number 2 and 3 ports was cut out, a thick piece of plate was welded between the two ports, and it was all stick welded back up with the addition of another down-pipe below number 2. Here's a quick mock-up...

...now I'm just gonna blast it, and maybe clean-up some of the 'rustic' welding and run it.

Great work, did you make a drawing for the adaptor plate? If so, I'd like to buy a copy :)

It is almost as easy to just use Two head Gaskets Trace them onto paper work out where to cross drill the cooling holes then blend the combustion chamber that is in the plate so the valves clear and the chambers are the same volume. Just follow your nose really

The fun part of the Tee motor build was making the patterns for the side plates and covers. They are made from MDF then filled sanded with several coats of high build primmer sanded again and top coated so they have a smooth finish think of pushing your mold into sand then pulling it out so there are no undercuts an easy process one you get your head around it any good foundary will cast them for you and it is so satisfying that you hand crafted them.

I made a mistake when driving, I saw the course color change early and lifted out.
Once I determined the surface was just dark I put it back down but lost quite a bit.

Yes 318-360 head being stretched and redrilled for the Dodge bros. block. Needed a 1.425 spacer between #2 and #3. 1&2 and 3&4 were very close the the same bore spacing on the block and head.

    Hello,
I have been lurking for quite awhile and just purchased a running and driving 29 with the banger still in it. Have done quite a bit of research on dual carb setups heads and ignition setups. One setup I was hoping someone could help me figure out is carb selection for a vortex dual updraft intake. I am leaning towards this direction. since updraft carbs seem to be considerably less expensive than two Stromberg 81s. Also I have read something from bill.stipe that the stock exhaust is good to about 90-100 HP which I won't be seeing anytime soon. So the hypothetical combo is a.brumfield 5.9 or 6.5 head a fs ignition and a vortex dual updraft intake on my stock engine for now. The part I can't decide on is carb selection some say not to hang the a or b carbs from the manifold because of weight and to use tillys. Not sure if I fully believe this. So now to get the point should I find a matched pair of Tilly x, zenith a, or zenith b carbs. I'm not planning a cam now but down the road most likely if i really enjoy the banger. Or is it as simple as going with whatever I can find or put together in a matched pair. I'm looking forward to getting this project going and thank you for the help

  15. Just had the pictures from Tod Buttermore on the new block progress.
Very nice looking, could he be related to Henry?
This will be a very good starting point for a new motor.

PS. if any parts need "stress testing" I can help.

    Er, where are the pictures?

  19. Valve lash is usually determined by cam design rather than brand of the head. If it were mine I would start at in .012 ex .015 hot

    what pix ?

  21. Since the Forum community has been up to its normal tricks Tod has decided to not post pics.
I really don't blame him, send him a note and he will probably send you some.

All I can say is WOW, I wish I had his experience and facilities available to me.
Then again, there aren't enough hours in a week.

Oh, a word on valve lash, cam profile along with other factors will dictate your spec.
I have done tuning by lashing the valves differently when the cam is in question.
It is not the cure, but more tells you some of what the motor wants.
Then make adjustments to timing, profile and CL.
