does anyone know of who makes longer (top - shackle) spring perches . i need to raise my front axle ....... thanks .. steve
I'd imagine, that "Google" is your friend ! Just type in what you want, it'll probably bring up all kinds of places to buy from ! Like maybe Speedway Motors ? Mike
The height of your front axle is determined by the diameter of the tires . If you want to raise the front of the frame , then you'd want to lower the perch or put a spacer between the spring & the perch .
I've only ever seen the standard height perches, never one taller than Ford's. I'd bet it would never sell, as 99.99% of hot rodders want to get lower. How about switching out your spring? My brother wanted a high arch spring for his coupe and had one special made by Saint Louis Spring.
31' ford coupe . i put a "super bell" 4" drop .......... got the recommended spring . the space between the shackel hole & the taper , i need a longer shaft (ooppss) ......... it has no travel as shackels hit axle
What angle are the shackles at? Should be 45 degrees (or slightly flatter even) with all the weight on the car. If not, you need a shorter main leaf. If yes, then something is weird as they usually don't hang low enough to touch with the proper spring. You will find old axles with grooves worn in the top just inboard of the perches, but that happened when the shackle bushings wore out.
Steve, if you have re arched the main leaf to make it reversed that will ad an inch to each side of the spring. Get a shorter main leaf . JW
did not arch .......... straight from speedway pix today .................... thanks as i know this is wierd
I reversed the main leaf on my avatar using the press. It went back on the car with no problem and I did not shorten it
Picture first up probably would have short circuited all the questions required. I look forward to your pictures.
