hi all, been lurking and reading for awhile and finally have a query over spring length. I'm building a Dick Kraft style gate and only have access to limited parts as such. The query comes in the form of I have a 40 ford front end that I was planning on turning into an over spring setup but upon measuring the perch centres and removing 5, I end up with 33.5 but the closest spring is 31 inch. Will this do the job or will it put too much strain and incorrect angle into the perch bolts, shackles and main spring leaf?

You may need a custom made main leaf. Surely there are some in the Kingdom.

Depending on the amount of arch in the spring, the 31 wide spring may depress to fit very well. If one shackle is connected, and a block of wood placed between the axle and the spring, squeeze the spring down to hook up the other side. If not, a new main leaf may have to be made.

the spring is a standard eye 48 axle spring and comes with 4 3/4 height from speedway, would that be enough height to gain an inch each side?
