  1. Hi, Cleaning out my late Uncles home for family. Found this photo. Could this be Altamont Fair IMG_6224.JPG NY Speedway? Driver? Looks like early 1930's. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Don, you sure that you didn’t take the picture yourself? I’m just saying…

The driver resembles one of the Rathman brothers, helmet and all.

  5. Hi, Thanks for the reply. This photo was among 6 large boxes of photographs being left to me to determine what and who may be in the photos. Have only scratched the surface . Some envelopes are marked 1915 and above. Do not know if there will be other photos related to racing but will post if more found. Why my Uncle had this photo?? Appreciate the replies.

  6. And Dave, well starting to feel that old but a bit before my time. But you know you are getting there when I made a visit to the Saratoga Auto museum with my son and on the second floor was a restored midget on display. Son liked it and I said I pushed that car off in the mid 1980's during one of our club events. Now that made me feel my age.

  7. Cool photo, is it possibly Rollie Johnson, Jack Johnson father and Ronnie grandfather? He was an open wheeler and helped land Jack some of his early rides.

there were so many tracks in this area during that time it’s tough to nail down which one it might be.

  8. Well That is what we are thinking. I have a nice photo of Lee Wallard in the
Hilltop special sprint car. Will compare his face with this unknown one. Possibly this photo is from New Jersey as my Grandfather married a gal from New Brunswick New Jersey. My Uncle was not born until 1933 so this photo must be from my Grandfather's things that were passed down to him. Frame photo was in is circa 1930's. But you never know? No info on back of photo. And yes to chassis.. I have a 1 man sprinter in the basement being pieced back to life. Believe 1924 Model T frame.. by location of brackets.. Came from Midwest. Body is newer on it.. Will be a B powered banger. Appreciate any help or leads.

I know the feeling. Last time I was over in Bennington visiting a mutual friend, he showed me his restored Pop Clark coupe, the one numbered 77. Mid to late 60s, which I watched many times at the Valley. Yup, made me feel a little bit older…

  10. I was incorrect Jack's father's name was Rollie (Roland).

I showed this photo to my father, and he believes it is Rollie Johnson

    Maybe Warrensburg Fairground?

  11. O.K Great. Thank you. I suspected a local racer. If you would like a copy let me know as I had a few extras made. Thank you.

  12. If you have a chance look up Ronnie Johnson, a few years ago, my mom found my old Jack Johnson shirt, Ronnie was very happy to see and sign it.

I am sure he would be happy to talk to you about Rollie's history.
