I've been researching the last few days and haven't found much. Has anyone ever slapped an SROD trans behind a 223? Any thoughts or tech info, limitations, known incompatibilities?
    Thanks

Not sure what gear ratios you have in that one but I have the SROD in my 57 Ford behind the 292 V8. I don’t pull hole shots with it. I don’t think it’s considered a real stout transmission but it has been fine in my car. The gearing is a rather long jump from 2nd to 3rd gear, which can be a bit awkward when cruising at 25-35 mph but I sure love the overdrive 4th gear on the highway.

I appreciate the input, Mac. This one is from a truck, according to the shifter location. Which is good since I have a bench seat. The gears are 1st-3.25:1, 2nd-1.92:1, 3rd 1:1, OD .78:1 and I've got a 3.90 rear end, so yeah that 70mph at approx 2600 rpm is what I'm looking forward to.....I'm confident it's plenty stout enough for the 223, and from what I gather, I just need to drill the flange for my bell housing pattern (plenty of room and it's aluminum), lathe down the input shaft bearing retainer slightly, shorten the input shaft by 3/16" or so, and get a c4 slip yoke....everything else seems to fall in place. Seems to be in good condition....******ed it up for $80, shifter and all. I planned to pull the motor and trans this winter to do seals anyway, so this will be going in then. If you have any tech tips for install, let me know. Thanks Mac! tran1.jpg tran2.jpg tran3.jpg .

I had one of those in a Granada (behinds the 250 six cylinder) and it performed well. Probably different ratios for the Granada

Yeah, I don’t remember the ratios off the top of my head but they are marginally different.

Be sure to keep it full of oil. I let mine get low and lost the pocket bearing between the input and main shafts.

I appreciate the tip, Synchro. What was yours in? Which motor? Did you like it?

In the model A in my avatar behind a mild 289. I never tried drag racing it because I didn't want to take a chance of screwing up the rare 16 x 4.5 wire wheels. I didn't like the ratio gap between 2nd and 3rd gears. As stated it made cruising a pain. It's still it the car, I haven't made up my mind to fix it or replace it with something else.
