...well, its done for now! Wow, this is a long time coming. If youve talked to me in the last 3 years, all youve heard me talk about is how im working on my coupe. Well, here she is in all her glory. Paso '05 blew my mind. I had a '72 C-10 that was my baby; it immediately went up for sale. After selling the truck, I was obsessed with picking up a coupe I could build. I had NO idea what i was getting myself into. I bought the coupe, 2 weeks later I was freezing my *** off in S. Korea (Air Force). That gave me plenty of time to buy parts and change my mind on the build 50 times over. I went from a hopped up banger, SBC, 331 Hemi, and then to the flathead. I finally began building the car in March '07. Two years later this is where im at. About 8 months ago I made a promise to myself that it would be finished by Santa Maria '09 and I made it. I built this car to fit the late '40s - early '50s. This was my first car build and Ive learned a lot along the way. Thanks to people on the HAMB and RUFFRODDERS, this dream has become a reality. I had very limited skills at the beginning of this build and now I feel like I could build anything! I couldnt have done it without the support of a few key people. First off, the wife (BlondeBettie), 5WBOMBER and his Dad were EXTREMELY helpful in the build. I definately wouldnt have been able to finish this car without them. Bear Metal Kustoms cut my rearend down and gave me a smokin deal, thanks again. VonZacho, D-Smoke, Rob; ****in SHIFTHEADS for life. Thanks to all the people here that answered my questions, the HAMB and RUFFRODDERS are one of the mose valuable tools you can have when building a car for the first time. Thanks again... Rob
Ya, I couldnt stand the paint scheme when I got the car, but now it has grown on me. Im really actually liking it. Maybe you just have to see it in person?
Dude its looks great.... Whats the story...is that a leatherback?...the whole top and back are material? The paint jumped off the page at first....by the end of your pics I see what you mean... its grows on ya....I really like it.
This car is a Special Coupe, to learn more about Special Coupe's, go here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=236 . I was very leary about buying it, but just like the paint, the top grew on me. One thing I dont like about the top is how "****y" it is. I would like to get the padding takedn out and have the top pulled tight. "Chris" posted an absolute BEAUTIFUL Special Coupe a few months back that was brown with a black top. That is the way I would like my top to look. Side Note; I heard that the "Special Coupe" was a $100 option from the factory? Not sure if thats true or not?
Ya, no kidding! Ive literally driven it every day since i got it running, no joke. If im leaving the house, im taking the coupe. Now its just clean up time with all the little stuff. Anyone know where I can score a sheet of copper?
what do you need the copper for? How much do you need? I might just happen to have a little sitting around....
I want to do a copper tunnel from the ****** coupler to the back near the rearend. Ive looked around a little and ive been told to try the heating/AC places?
CONGRATULATIONS MAN!!! Looks and sounds ****ing killer too! But you forgot to thank the Invisble Drunk ******s who lent you a sawzall and stoppers...hahahaha! Come by and give me a ride to the Maverick sometime!
HAHAHAHA!! How could I forget! You guys did help out too! Thanks for the saw and ceviche! Tell Dave thanks again and to get off his *** to get his done!
All the copper you will find will be thin. I made my tunnels out of aluminum first and then skinned them with the copper...One of my buddies can get me copper sheet... If you end up not finding any, let me know.. Jason. OH... he works for a heating and cooling place... they use it for stove hoods...etc...
man that thing makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up! i ****ing love it! that coupe marks the first day of the rest of the SHIFTHEADS lives. reading this thread is like watching the end of Rudy and ****! it could make a grown man cry! Cant wait for the mine to be there and for all the rest to come! LONG LIVE THE SHIFTHEADS!
Neighbors would come by to see what was going on during the build. Somtimes I would accidentaly drop a bolt on the cowl or decklid and they would go"ooohhhoohhhh" and cringe. I would just shrug it off. I'd say "its not a perfect car so im not too worried about little dings or scrathes here and there." They just scratched their heads. Jason-- Ill let you know. Thanks for the comments fellas.
