I got Bruce's number off this thread https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/th400-article.228842/page-3 and just ordered a kit
Bruce said he is going to do one more build group, so his controllers are available. I'm quite happy with the one I have. It switches to high stall when you brake and stays there for I believe 60 seconds after your release the brake. It will also switch to high stall if the manifold vacuum drops below a certain value. It acts like a part throttle passing gear. You can email Bruce at bcroe@juno.com
The Cadillac's I used did so I guess I was lucky. Then again that was in the mid 70's' but used on in a 8.90 bracket front motor dragster, with 400 SBC. At Green Valley outside Ft Worth.
Since we're here, just a callout for a stock 400 Switch pitch converter, or maybe a 300, (wasn't aware they interchange.) to anyone near Atlanta. I'd hate to ship one these days, so if your nearby.... What are the stock stall ratings on a 300 SP?
Somewhere around 1500 low-2000 high is pretty common for stock converters. The smaller 300 converters are usually 100-200 higher than the larger 400 converter. I had one stock rebuilt 300 converter that gave me close to 2500 in high stall. That's unusual.
is he still around? I thought he was long gone...or maybe it was just a bad experience with him made me hope so?
Wiese is the only one I know of still doing them, Jim Burek out of El Paso is not around anymore that I know of. Did you have a problem with the one in the Nova?
I've been through a few converters in a few different cars. The one I have now was done by one of those guys, but I don't remember which. It got rebuilt by Hughes several years ago, and is working pretty well still.
