I used to have a '60 El Camino with stacks, it also had shag carpeting lining the bed. You don't see either now days. Maybe just as well.
Used to run belly burners on my 55... always thought it would be cool to "french" them into the side of the bed by cutting 3" tubing length wise and grafting it onto the bed side which would be smooth of course - to the outside of the bed supports. Like stacks too... look at 70 ish vette side pipes for some ideas regarding perforated surround
Just makes me think of all these new diesels running them -there huge like freak`n stove pipes. The turquoise truck above I think looks good.Like anything if done with some class it can improve the look. But safety first especially for the kids
There were a few around in the 50s-60s. Most were like the 53 above...just the pipe without any burn protectors. Back then I thought they were cool but I have grown to not want them on my trucks. In the 70s they sold stacks for P/Us which were basically side pipes with vertical mounts. I hooked up a few in the 80s but hey were considered passe by then. There were even a few with the hinged rain caps that would clack-clack-clack at idle. I could not handle that. I never cared for how the long slender pipes changed the sounds of the exhaust and put it right behind your ears.
