staiaght-eight/hydromatic swap?

I have a '49 Pontiac with the straight-eigth/hydro combo. I would like to swap the hydro for another automatic ****** but don't know which, if any will bolt onto the motor. Any ideas?

 

You're out of luck, my friend. The hydro is its own breed. The only thing you can switch to, and bolt in would be a 3 speed manual for the straight 8.

 

Without buying an adapter kit from Bendtsens to mount up a th350 or 400 thats about the only other choice you have. Or find a good used hydro.
