does anyone know if pontiac ever made any valve covers with the "pontiac" lettering stamped into them? im looking for something similar to cadillac valve covers of the 50s exept by pontiac to grant the lettering onto the stock valve covers on my 1975 400 pontiac-a dirrect bolt on is not required
These are the covers that came on my 57. I believe they started with these in 57, since most of the 55s and 56s I have seen in the yards have the silver Strato Streak applique on them. How long they made them, not sure?? It was in the thread mentioned earlier, maybe some one could post a link.
the canadian ponchos had sbc valve covers with a different script than the one pictured above, angled block letters, my 56 has them.
US 55-56 Pontiacs had an aluminum plate on one side with the lettering stamped in rather than the cover itself stamped, would be an easy add-on to later valve covers, as opposed to cutting and welding.
57 is the only year with the stamped scripted valve covers...The ends are more rounded off than the later valve covers but they will work on the newer heads. The bolt pattern is the same. Either buy spacers or double up on the gaskets so the rockers don't hit the valve cover. FYI RA IV vc gaskets are 1/4" thick as opposed to the regular vc gaskets which are 1/8".
sweet! thanks for the info guys, i want to use them on a steel t bucket im starting that will be a visual tribute to the lightning bug, so stamped is a must. ill do a better search and see what i can find
Did you ever find a set of valve covers? I'm now fabricating custom valve covers in Red Deer AB. I started doing this out of necessity while trying to find a set of the Pontiac script covers. You can see the set I fabricated in the background of this photo of a set GMC ones I made. Cheers, JP Bad Oman Cl***ics 403-872-7101
