This will be a slow build(hell it's been 11 years now ) This is not my first chev I have done and removed all the wood .Have always had a 33 - 36 chev in my garage 30+years now . The chassis under the coupe presently was somebodies attempt at a hot rod in the 70s , stick welder ,cutting torch and angle iron . Bought the 4 door for the restored chassis and cowl and other pieces . Sourced my steel yesterday to start fabbing a sub structure for the 3 window body using the wood sub structure still attached to the new frame for a pattern .
Those were good looking cars, it's too bad they were constructed like that or there would be more around. Good luck on the project!!
Yes, sometimes life gets in the way and projects get put on hold. I've been there. But it looks like you have the parts for a nice car, so stay after it. It will be a killer coupe when you are done!
It took a long time to find good body parts for the car , Nos trunk lid ,hinges to convert to trunk lid , trunk lid handle . Rear fenders I couldn't put my hand thru the holes in them , front fenders without spare tire mounts and all rusted and beat up and non of it from the "Buy it now site"
Too bad the vin tag isn't on the RH wood frame rail anymore by the pass. seat or at least I couldn't tell.
No, vintage tag was long gone , but ownership in my name, and I have the manufacturers tag for the firewall .
Placed the rockers on the subframe and tried the doors on the hinges and the fit looks good ,just a little tweaking here and there needed .
Still need to fab up the rear part of the subframe to fasten the wheel wells and rear part of body , at some point I have to change the wheel wells in the body to the ones mounted on the car subframe now
The previous owner cut the wheel wells out of the car and replaced them with what is there now , bit of a hack job ,also the 33 fenders bolt through the wheel wells and the distance is wrong
Got a few repairs on the cowl to do before I can mount it to the new sub frame , front bottom on pass. Side has come loose
Got the cowl and subframe bolted back on the chassis , windshield post needs welded on drivers side , rocker panel lines up nicely. Work tomorrow , and need to pick up some Inch and a half tubing in my travels . Had to drill a couple of mounting holes in the subframe
Had a 55 ford crown vic roof in the shop and got tired of moving it around so I cut it down to us as an insert for the 33 coupe . Fit looks as though it will be good !!! Shaped a piece of 1/4 inch wire to the coupe roof and dropped it on the crown roof and found roughly where it should be cut .width is close ,but left it 6 inches longer than what I need
