Not to discourage you but an 8 inch Ford wont take much abuse ,dont ask me how i know.I would start with atleast a 9 inch in front of that motor your planning to use...

thanks guys ..drag 50 i talked to you a wile back about your 2 door but just to far to drive and cost to much to ship i like your car i have pics of it saved on the puter ..

ill have to keep my eyes peeled for a 9 inch .i was trying to build it with what i had here at the house .and fab as much as possible ..i dont think the car will be on the road much but it will be doing alot of burn outs :D

the front axle was out of a 40 ford i was told. it has a posie spring. and speed way batwings .and hairpins on it .trying to talk my friend out of a set of ansen cookie cutters for the front ..for the rear. im torn on cutten the 1/4s out and going with a big set of 30 .13.15 m/hs that i have. or a set of 29.9.15 m/hs. and not cutting the 1/4s. ill have to wait and see..

    later on dice.

I know what you mean about trying to build it with what you got handy.I am the same way (or atleast i will be till i win the Lotto).I just didnt know if you realized there is a major difference strength wise between an 8 and 9 inch Ford rearend .If your just gunna do burnouts then let her rip .I like what your doing with the Willys so far ,good job ,and keep us posted on you progress ...

    Slick project,

8 inches are not a bad choice at all, like anything it has a limit but you can do much worse for a rear end choice, and parts are available for upgrades.

Otherwise if that 8 inch is the right width you could retain the 28 spline axles, tubes and ends, cut the housing and add a 28 spline 9 inch center. This isn't the strongest combination out there but it worked well for Ford and its great set up for a street car on budget. It is also cheaper to rebuild the 9 inch carrier than an 8, and you could move up to stronger axles later on if need be.

    Goodluck hope to see more...

well alot has changed on my plans for this car name, motor, tires, and i picked up a franklin quick change for it .broke the front windshield. that should be fun to find. lucky its 2 piece. been so busy with my bizz that i haven't touched it in 2 years .
dug it out last week. and worked on it for 3 days. felt good to work on my own stuff for a change ..

I like the looks of this thing. Man the metal work involved in this one would scare most people off. I wouldnt hesitate on cutting the quarters for the larger tires.

thanks..yes in cutting the 1/4s out i have a franklin quick change and some 28 13.50 et streets with steel wheels for out back .
ill get the fire wall, brake setup, and steering done. then ill have to slow down. im falling behind on customers work. and that pays the bills ..

Back in the late 60's, there was a Willys like this, that ran at San Fernando Dragstrip in Southern Calif...it was by a couple guys, Badburg and Bernhart....I THINK ???? It ran a big block chevy as I recall....I think ??? I went right out and bought one, put a straight axle under it and sold it soon after...one of the cars that got away....young and stupid is hard
    to cure !!!!!
