I started on my newest engine build,a 434 small block Chevrolet for my 1939 Ford street rod tonight.Everything went well until I got into a snag, the top end is left also.I put the oil pan on and checked the clearance between the oil pan and oil pump screen. Not much clearance at all and I know that is not good.I called the owner of the machine shop I go to,he said that the wrong oil pump screen was possibly ordered by him,he is going to take care of that.I can't go with a deeper oil pan.Hits the ground barely.Checked this with a mach up block,a stock 400 Chevrolet with a deeper oil pan.I dropped the front suspension 3 inches.Sounds like I might have to go with a stock high volume oil pump using a stock oil pan.

Using an aftermarket block,a world products 400 block which I had the cylinders bored out.Found the problem,I ordered the wrong oil pan I had custom made.It is too long heigth wise built wrong and sending it back.I bought an aftermarket pan off a friend of mine and came with the oil pump screen
