Here are some more photos of the rear window and catwalk in the infancy stage and prior to the hours of grinding!!!!!!!!!!1
thanks Leadsled612, I have chopped my 54 chevy and assisted with a buddys 51 plymouth but have never done a merc and I really dig the flow of yours. thats why all the questions, I personally think it is super easy to screw a merc chop up, most people would never notice but I'm picky like that I want my chop to look spot on from all angles! so feel free to post any more pics if you have them, if not thanks for obliging thus far!
Hotdamn....Thanks for comments! Although this is my VIRGIN chop!!! I must pay special thanks to a fellow HAMB member, Slddnmatt, for he was a huge help via his pictures and comments. He lives on the other side of the United States in California. I think it is really cool that 2 guys can have an internet dialogue about a common intrest and the end result is worth noting!!!!!!!!
I agree hell I just really appreciate that you guys post this stuff because it has taken a WHOLE lot for me to finally get my hands on a merc and the last thing I want to do is screw it up
Busy weekend but still managed to get some work done on the Ol'Merc!! I was able to barrow a shrinker/stretcher from a fellow merc owner in the area....what a life saver!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shaping up the passenger door.....The door tops are harder to deal with than the entire roof chop!!!!!!!!!
Your merc was a monterey I think. I can tell by the small nail marks near the windshield.. looks good. tok
Completed the passenger door today and fabbed in a whole new, full length, weld-in bottom piece for the door. Thanks to a friend who has a 49 Merc...he gave me the piece! Thanks Joe. Well....I am going to repair the rear quarter before I complete the drivers side door posts....just need a change in pace.
I like the straight post on your chop, rather than slanted. When I chop my '51, I'm planning on doing a straight post. Do you have anymore pictures or insight about how you made it a straight post?
Although the steering column is not 100% yet, ( plan on cutting 3" out of it) I still ENJOY sneaking out the 1950 Mercury for a quick cruise around the block to keep things lubricated!!!!! I am still finishing up the drivers door and dicing out any rot areas and fabbing in new metal. Slow and steady!!!!!!!!!!!
Joe, I'm going with black exterior,100%, and a red and silver interior. Red painted steel wheels with 57 Caddy hubcaps. I just love that look. I really like BadBob's flames, from the front to the rear, may do that if thats cool with him.
Just an update....the chop is complete! Now I plan to mock back the front clip for proper fit and adjustment, itemize a hardware list and strip the car of paint. This is the long boring process of sanding and filling! UGH!! The dash is complete as well as the steering column I cut shorter by 3". I do plan to shoot the interior metal (floors, doors etc)with a rusty metal primer after I fabricate the appropriate metal pieces needed to set the front split bench seat.
