Your flexplate does look good. I've seen worse behave just fine. I have to ask, don't be offended, what bolts are you using? The full shouldered bolt locates it securly into place, offers very little "wiggle". Just as an aside, not the right way (if there is one), a standard "shank" style bolt the proper length will allow a bit more engaement. This is also if you even need it. 1/2 way into the teeth or a bit more? Why more if it's reliable and doesn't grind? If you use a regular shank bolt add a couple star washers to the starter body under the heads. Not locks, stars. Get it close, put it where you want it with the back brace loose, tighten the big bolts 1st, back brace last, forget it and have fun.

  2. starter.jpg looks like your starter has shifted due to wrong bolts:

I've tried both regular style bolts and starter bolts with knurled shanks

Well fellas, I put a DB electrical starter on, which is a smaller oe style hi-torque starter. I'm still at the 1/2 into the flexplate engagement. But I think I'm going to roll with this and see what happens. Thanks for all the ideas, but I guess I'll never really know until I pull the flexplate and try a new one, so until this one chews up, I'm Rollin with it! Wish me luck, thanks again guyz!
